I have been to the Fox, the aquarium, Margaret Michell’s apartment. What else?

Have a look at this thread for some ideas

We visited Someplace to do with Coke, and CNN, but that was 10 years ago.

My favorite is the Botanical Gardens; even my 20-something sons really enjoyed it. We spent 3 hours and could have spent many more (but had a plane to catch).

I will be there Saturday, but I will be working… no time for sightseeing.

I’ll also be there, 10/22 to 10/25. Would love suggestions when I can escape from my meetings. Thanks! Heard CNN was interesting.

I love the Coke museum. I also like Tara, the Scarlett Ohara recreation of the novel.

How far is Tara from the Convention Center? Just curious, as I did find Gone with the Wind fascinating.

Him on,
I looked on visitgeorgiaonline, and realized we went to Stately Oaks Plantation, which is about 15 miles south. We drove by car, so i dont know if there is a bus. There was also a full Scarlett tour, which stopped at M. Mead’s home and various other places. I didn’t do that, but enjoyed the plantation and the beautiful grounds.

Thanks all! MLK and CNN, maybe. The botanical gardens also. It was too hot last time I was there to visit. And I will do a little shopping. We may drive outside of town…anyway, looking forward to a long weekend.

This may not be fun for everyone but I love the Dekalb Farmers Market. (Need a car to get to it.) Lots of interesting packages foods, fantastic prices on bulk foods. I bought mountains of dried lavender for practically nothing & I hope to look up something cool to do w/ it for holiday gifts… Bring a sweater if you go, though, it is always freezing in there – probably not a big deal this time of year, but I was very uncomfortable when we were visiting there this summer.

Here are more links to previous threads on things to do in Atlanta. Lots of choices!!

Holler if you need anything

The first thread linked here was the one I started. I had a very nice visit. My favorite thing was the MLK complex, especially MLK’s childhood home and sitting in the Ebenezer Baptist Church and hearing recordings of MLK preaching. I had to go to the High Museum as much for the architecture as the art. Enjoyed it a lot, though architecturally, I don’t think it’s one of Richard Meier’s great buildings. Like other buildings of his, they are no longer using the entrance he planned. Maybe there’s a lesson there! I also really enjoyed the Atlantic History Center and especially the Swan House.

In terms of food we had a wonderful breakfast at [The Flying Biscuit Cafe](http://www.flyingbiscuit.com/) and a wonderful lunch at [South City Kitchen Restaurant - Contemporary Southern Food in Midtown, Atlanta GA -Dinner](Hours & Location Midtown | South City Kitchen in GA). We also thought the warm donuts at Krispey Kreme were fabulous.

Did you like Fox’s BBQ? I thiks its reopened after the tree landed on it!

I am off to airport. Lots to consider.

If you are in Midtown Atlanta near Georgia Tech, you might want to stop at the original location of the Varsity drive-in. http://thevarsity.com/locations.php?action=view&store_id=9 It takes up 3 blocks (2 acres) and sells more Coke than any other restaurant in the US and possibly the world. I personally recommend the frosted orange shake, a burger (hot dogs are also available) with both chili and coleslaw, and onion rings. While there are 2 locations in the airport, the original has a very unique ambiance.

I enjoyed the meal at Fox’s, but I’m not sure I’d put it on my top 5 list. Unlike DH, I actually sometimes think I get too much BBQ, though I am perfectly willing to entertain his obsession. Liked the company at Fox’s however!
I’m more interested in trying new food - and the very different style grits and the other two restaurants were IMO much more memorable.

Ditto the Flying Biscuit diner. Allegedly the best contemporary southern breakfast in town.

Enjoyed our tour of the Swan House years ago. The Varsity was a ho-hum thing for us. If you think you’ll enjoy the experience of an Asian grocery store, drive out to Buford Highway in the north end. Booming population from southeast asia and the pacific have transformed this area.

My DH likes Fat Matt’s Rib Shack. Good music, good eats [Fat Matt’s Rib Shack](http://fatmattsribshack.com/)

Another interesting place I went was [Your Dekalb Farmers Market - A World Market - Atlanta’s Best Source Of Affordable Organic Food](http://www.dekalbfarmersmarket.com/) . My cousins took us to buy dinner supplies. A veritable warehouse of every kind of food you can imagine with a very international staff as well.
