As of August I will be in my freshman year attending North high school. I am taking all honors (English, Bio, World History, Geometry, Art and Spanish) and I am also taking latin at south high school, my last period. The two high schools are a 10 minute drive apart, how should I go about telling one of my teachers I have to leave their class 10 minutes early every day? Do you know someone who has done something like this? I am REALLY interested it taking latin, but is this even a good idea?
I know a few people that did this at my school, but the schools are 5 minutes apart, and I think the students had a study hall that they would just be late to at my school
Seems kinda crazy, but if you’re really interested in taking Latin, it makes sense.
I don’t know how your school’s scheduling works, but I think it would be helpful to try to schedule a study hall during your second-to-last period so you have time. Between getting ready to leave, your walk to the car, your drive to the school, possible traffic/inclement weather, parking your car (probably towards the back of the lot) and walking into school 10 minutes early doesn’t sound like enough time.
Is it really worth the hassle and gas money? Maybe you can look for an online class, or see if you can take credits at a college, since their classes are usually during more flexible hours.
Many people in my school do this. They take half of their classes at one of the local tech schools, 2 days a week. (I considered one of these schools full-time. I’m happy I didn’t attend, though, as I changed my career plans from veterinary to social work). The students leave during the middle of second block, a special bell is rung for them, and they take a bus. It’s a little disruptive for the class with many students leaving. Although if you’re the only student leaving, I don’t think the teacher would mind as much. I don’t think you’d miss much in the last ten minutes, at least in my school. I agree with the above poster that an online class may be easier, though. Good luck!
I say go for it if you can! I’m taking two languages too but I am planning in taking Latin online during the school year. If this is a potential option to you, this may be an alternate option if transportation to the second high school is too hard.
