Attention jym626 et al.-Real life meet up?

That’s an interesting idea jym626. I will ask my son how he feels about it - and if someone does have an available teenager, I guess that would be fine with me as long as it’s fine with him…lol. I’m still working on looking for someone - I didn’t have time to make any calls from work today, and we’re going to be having birthday cake for H very soon - but after that I will make some calls. I promise…lol.

If we meet in Westchester, we can yak for longer. My cousin is consistently inconsistent-- she arrives as scheduled when the moon is blue, the stars are alligned, the wind is no more than 5 mph and the temp is between 58-61 degrees, if you get my drift. She is a sweetheart but don’t set your watch by her.

While it is easier for me to meet in Westchester, it is pretty easy for everyone to get to GCS-- might be harder for the folks outside of Westchester to get to wherever we choose to meet (any suggestions for a decent place near a train station?? Is there something in Scarsdale village that can be walked to from the station?). If not, then we should probably plan GCS at noon, maybe? If the NYC/LI contingency is not for sure, then itis silly for those of us in Westchester to go into the City. I got backchannel emails-- let me reread them. Please also feel free to post here too- so we can get this figured out!

Almost forgot-- LIMOMOF2 is REQUIRED to bring raisin pumpernickel or chocolate bread from a non rat/roach infested bakery!!

I can make it to the city (GCT is that Grand Central?) but not Westchester. If we are meeting in the city I will come, but if you all decide Westchester is better, no hard feelings.

I’d love to meet Mythmom, reason enough to meet at GCT for me. :)

jym626, the ball is back in your court. We realize you need to coordinate with your cousin and have time to help your Dad. The LI contingent seems to be up for this if we can do it at GCT (Grand Central Terminal.) So, jym626, if you can spare the time, it sounds like GCT would work for most. My only request is that the meeting time be earlier (before 2 p.m. as originally scheduled) perhaps noon or so if possible for all. Everyone check your train schedules and synchronize your watches. :)

I cannot meet earlier because I teach until Noon, sigh. Part of the college tuition play, Sat. morning college courses. I can get them to leave at 11:30 (class starts at 9:00) but that’s as far as I can push it. And way out in Suffolk County it does take a while to get into the city. And I plan to drive. The ride from here is endless.

However, although I would absolutely adore meeting all of you and pledge to come (I did go to Juilliard! in driving rain) there are absolutely NO HARD FEELINGS if a time and place is selected that I can’t make.

Jym, you must decide, and we are all in support of what works for you. You are the beleaguered traveler.

I emailed my cousin to see if she can get in in time to make a 12:00 train. Then we could meet from say 12:35-2ish, so those that have to leave early can, and mythmom, you can join us as wellon the later side. What is the best place to meet in GCS? What is the name of the cheesecake place on the lower level? Is it open on a Saturday? Any other suggestions? Lets get this nailed down! Then we can backchannel contact info. , if everyone is comfortable with that.

The cheesecake place is called “Junior’s,” and it is open on Saturdays from 6 a.m.-10 p.m. (That should about cover us :D) But I do feel terrible about asking to meet earlier because it poses a big conflict for mythmom. I will push it as late as I can from my end so that we can accommodate as many as possible. So, let’s see what time jym626’s cousin can make it, and we’ll go from there. At least we have a meeting place.

Ok, I still don’t have a definite place for S to hang out, but I’m getting closer. My friend said she would let me know tomorrow, but that she thinks it would be ok. It’s just that her FIL had a stroke last week, and she may have to go help him out (she needs to find out from her H). I really hated to ask her, but everyone else is away on vacation.

Juniors sounds great, and convenient. I truly hope it works out. I may be able to ask my MIL to help me out, but that would be pure torture for my S, so I really don’t want to do that to him…lol.

ANy suggestions for how we will know each other? I used to have mardi gras beads but have no clue where they are. I probably will not have time to hit the store before Thurs. Any thoughts? I have nametags and will try to remember to bring them-- but I cant rely on my memory these days. Other ideas?

You should all carry a copy of the 2008 USNWR college rankings - I think it is bright green?

Everyone should wear – oh, a black sweater or shirt.

Black I can do. Not dragging any !@##$$$%%*) college stuff up to NY!! Sorry!!

Well, I’d love to join you all, but I live in CA now and not Westchester County. Pretend I’m sitting on a stool quietly in the corner… maybe I’ll send a marmot.

count me as another one attending this gathering vicariously. But beware black – it’s not like every woman in NYC wears black or anything! Roses in the teeth?

OK, I can drag out a black GAP sweatshirt, and I think I have nametags and was planning to put one on when I get to the lower level food court. I will write (surprisingly), “momof3sons” together with my real name. jym626, when is the last time that you will have internet access to finalize this festive occasion?
Mootmom-send in the marmots!
Oh, and everyone should think about bringing pictures of DS’s and DD’s, unless you think that’s too personal :)

LOL if you like I’ll wear my black Carnegie Mellon sweatshirt with plaid lettering.

I don’t have a black university sweatshirt! I’m sure I have something black to wear though…lol. Ivoryk is right though, practically everyone there will most likely be dressed in black…lol. New York is just that way.

If you guys end up meeting in GCT, I’ll try my best to make it! But we do need some kind of sign. Lots of people in NYC wear black and/or college sweatshirts!
