I posted this last year. This is our 2nd year as Auburn parents…PLEASE READ THIS!!!
We are from suburban Philadelphia, initially Auburn was just another school to visit on our tour of the SEC. Our first visit was to Tennessee (GREAT ADMISSIONS MARKETING) and it was amazing…great school……Later that summer we toured Alabama, Auburn, FSU, UF, UGA. For some reason the first minute we arrived at Auburn, it had a slight, small scale “Villanova/Main Line” vibe (the downtown and IMMEIDATE surroundings). Villanova/Main Line is an upscale suburb of Philadelphia. Our child fell in love with the campus and town.
Auburn is a hidden treasure, as it was the only school my daughter applied to and she was admitted EA round 1. She just finished her first year and loves the school and the experience. She did automatically qualify for one of their out of state scholarships and received an additional small AUSOM scholarship in March. If she would have applied to UTK and got in, they she would have qualified for more OOS merit scholarship money. Before her second year she received an additional AUSOM Scholarship.
The only stressful thing we had to encounter was housing. Since she committed quickly she was able to get a 4 person suite on campus. Besides the housing crunch we could not have asked for more from this school. If she did not get in she would have applied to UTK, but it was not necessary. Auburn is in a great location being 90 minutes to the ATL airport where many flights go back and forth from Philadelphia each day. Flying to ATL is much cheaper than flying to Knoxville, Birmingham, Tallahassee etc.
From a parent perspective, the summer orientation was very through and helpful. We felt as if the administrators really care about the students. The “Auburn Family” motto….is actually genuine, not just a marketing gimmick. During the “First 56” days of school there is a new campus activity each day geared towards getting new students involved. Administrators are commonly seen at these events interacting with kids. Dr. Lady Cox and Dr. Woodard who are administrators are commonly interacting with students and are available on campus. They also provide PHENOMENAL ADVICE about how to “parent” college kids. These administrators are not just there for photo ops, they are always accessible to parents and students and can be seen on campus.
We could not be more impressed with AUBURN! It truly is a hidden gem of a school, I wish their admissions would market the Auburn experience so more kids see how special it is. Honestly a lot of kids in the Northeast seem more aware of the other SEC schools. I wish Auburn Admissions would improve their social media, more importantly focus on how accessible campus is from Atlanta. It is easy to get a flight to Atlanta, Auburn is one of the closest schools in the SEC to a MAJOR HUB AIRPORT! Auburn admissions…..if you read this….IMPROVE YOUR MARKETING AND PUSH THIS!!! It is so much cheaper to fly to Atlanta, rather than Birmingham, Tallahassee, Gainesville, Knoxville, Memphis (Ole Miss). In fact the driving time from Hartsfield to UGA and Auburn is very similar! Auburn has one of the most beautiful campuses in the SEC, you got to check it out!!! This school should be pushing upwards of 80000-90000 applications per year given how beautiful the campus is, the high quality academics, and the scholarship money offered.
I never in a million years thought I would send my child to Auburn, so far it has been a GREAT DECISION!!!
WAR DAMN EAGLE!
