Australian Open 2013

Well, Djoko can skip the Egg today.

Well done to Li Na. It was a hoot watching Maria implode.

Vika/Sloane - NID.

“Sloane has no belief and no mental strength.”

She’s 19.

Thank the tennis gods that we will not have to listen to a Sharipova/Azarenka screaming/screeching final… GO LI NA!!!

And lay off Sloane, love to see an up and coming American woman… :)

Azarenka has that kind of loud sigh after every point. I would hate to play against something like that as the sigh lasts into your preparation for the next shot. The loud sigh is after she hits the shot, not as she’s hitting the shot so there isn’t any real benefit in the actual hitting of the shot.

Yes, Sharapova/Azarenka is a really bad combination on the ears.

I can’t see Li Na beating Azarenka though.

So do you think Azarenka’s injury break was fair or cheating within the rules?

I don’t like the “cheating within the rules” phrase because like it or not, if it is within the rules it is not cheating It was obviously strategically placed and is therefore worthy of questioning, but it’s not like Sloane actually had a chance in the match anyway. The American commentators are especially ****ed about it because they hyped her up too much.

YUK! What’s with the black socks Djokovic, Federer & Murray are wearing to play in this tournament???

Black socks with shorts is something I associate w fashion-challenged old doofusses
http://richland.files.■■■■■■■■■■■■■/2010/06/shorts-and-black-socks.jpg

Fed’s been wearing the black socks for years. At first it reminded me of my grandfather, circa 1975. But I had to get used to it when my son’s tennis team voted to wear black socks for matches a couple of years ago. Now I’m used to it and it’s not so bad.

Anyway, I’ve never been a Murray fan but was quite impressed with him today (got up in time to watch starting from the second set). Seems like a changing of the guard, doesn’t it? Not that I think that Fed and Nadal won’t be back, but the Novak-Murray rivalry is definitely heating up!

Going to skip the women’s finals ) although I really hope Li Na wins) and definitely get up early to watch the men live on Sunday.

White is mostly a Wimbledon thing these days. The modern look is colors. They also have daytime and nighttime outfits.

Djokovic has used the UPS look for several years.

Expected outcome. :frowning:

I’m not bothered by Vika’s time out. Players take them all the time when things aren’t going their way.

I used to hate the black sock look but I’m use to it now.

I was sad to wake up to the news that Federer lost. I just love him. One of my sons does the black sock thing, so I have gotten used to it.

I’ll try to get over the “UPS look”…

Tx5 - Roger played well, just ran out of gas in the 5th. He needs to get one of those Egg things Djoker has. ;)

And he is still the GOAT! :)

Roger has indicated that his girls are one of his major priorities (this was in a post match interview where he lost a while ago) now and they should be. His fitness level is good enough to beat just about anyone in five sets if need be. Except for Djokovic, Nadal and Murray. And I think that he’ll need a good dose of luck going forward to win slams.

^ I agree. And when his rivals get to that age, they too will begin losing to the next generation (if they last that long.)

I don’t think that the other three will last as long as Federer has because of their playing styles. I’d guess that Nadal, Djokovic and Murray have already had more injuries than Federer in his entire career. I have never seen Federer with an arm cuff but I have seen Djokovic with an arm cuff and a knee strap. Murray’s problems with his ankles are well-known. Federer, Murray and Djokovic have all had back problems but Federer’s were only fairly recent in his 30s. Nadal’s chronic knee problems are well know. I think that I’ve seen videos of him with a knee strap when he was in his teens.

Agree 100%. What he has done has been amazing. I don’t believe I had ever seem him take an injury time out and can only recall him pulling out before a match twice - both last year, because of his back. What makes it even more incredible is that in every tournament for the last 8 or so years he has been there the last weekend. That is an incredible achievement and means he has played a lot more tennis than anyone else, ever.

I was sad that Roger lost. He is my all-time favorite player. I like to watch Nadal play but I think Roger’s poise, grace, elegance and tenacity make him the best ever, IMHO.

Yea during the match last night he said a nasty comment for Murray to hear, awkward.

What did Federer say to Murray after the first point at 6-5 in the 4th set? | Mens Tennis Forums;

I hate Murray and a Djoko/Murray final is really boring.

Well that was disappointing, though on the bright side at least Serena won’t be number 1.

I can’t stomach watching the men’s final.

Don’t write the Fed off yet. Remember back in '08 where he lost to Nadal in that incredible Wimbledon final for the first time, and the media, and most people in the tennis world was all doom and gloom about him, speculating his retirement and how he’ll never recover from it. Since then, he has added 5 more slams to his list. It’s always the same cycle; everytime he wins a slam it’s been the King is back, and everytime he lost in a slam, it’s been he’s on his way out.
