I don’t think 5 sets will be disappearing soon. They only appear in the grand slams anyway. It’s more likely that they’ll all introduce the 5th set tiebreaker instead.

They could happen at every one except the US, which is the only one with a TB. I remember for last year’s French I was in school in my last class sitting on the computer watching the live scores for an Isner match go to like 16-14 in the last set.

I’ve been at several excruciatingly long affairs at Wimby (almost exclusively on Court 18) and you cannot even leave to go to the potty since seats cannot be saved (there is always a long queue to get in and the mean usher ladies fill it the moment you get up.)

Once, I had no choice but to leave and that was during a match held over from the day before and I had been there from when the first ball was struck the day before and sat through several horrible women’s matches the second day before the match to be finished. Naturally, I missed the ending.

I had a great seat, too, front row right at the baseline. The only bad thing was that I was on the BBC all day and could be seen blowing gum bubbles every time a player was serving from that side. Was embarrassing.

A friend who didn’t go that day taped it for me - they have the red button on their cable boxes which allows them to watch any match on a TV court on their TV, and not only was I blowing bubbles but looked all disheveled as it had been raining all morning while we were queuing. My only saving grace was that match wasn’t seen on TV here in it’s entirety - just maybe a few games here and there as one of the players was Ginepri (who was not the reason I was at the match!)

When I saw the tape all I could think of was the Seinfeld episode where the cameras catch George eating an ice cream at the USO and it’s dripping all over his face and shirt.

Me too! My DH set up our fireplace so all I had to do was light it when I woke up. So I’ve been set with my roaring fire and hot coffee since 3:15 am Eastern Time. Loving this tennis.

You have time to take a nap before the interview. You’ll be fine!

i actually conducted an alumni interview yesterday for my alma mater (Northwestern) and, to be honest, I do not remember at all what the applicant was wearing! I guess I would have if it was completely inappropriate!

For some reason, my son isn’t awake yet. So surprised. Novak is his favorite. Then again, he was out later than I was last night! I’ll wake him after the first set… all he has today is a tennis match at 2 pm.

She was playing so well until she fell the first time, and remarkably well after that. It was scary when she fell the second time and hit her head. She’s a class act.

I woke up around 6 am yesterday and was happy to see that the match was still going on, but I only caught the last few games. I was rooting for Li Na too (wasn’t everyone?). Just couldn’t get up to watch tennis at 3:30 am three days in a row!
