Autistic and Lonely

As the semester nears its end, I have precisely one acquaintance, and two other people that I occasionally talk to in class. I can’t manage social events like parties, concerts, or even just gatherings where several people are expected to talk at once; I can’t handle the sound coming from multiple directions and have a sensory overload. Tbh, I don’t even understand why people would like these things, but I am extremely lonely because I have so much to say but no one to talk to outside of 4Chan’s /his/ board.

Anyone else with similar problems? I would prefer other non-NT’s, because they would understand the problems better, but all replies will be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Sorry, an NT here

Are there activities you do like to do? Video games? Board Games? Reading Books? Chess? Hiking? Music?

I am sure there are others at your college that are also introverts…they are harder to find.

Have you looked at the list of clubs and see any of interest? If not could you form one?
Can you talk to your RA to see if there are other quiet kids around?
Or ask if they could have a dorm game night (whatever you like) and attend that…and then see if there are anyone who you click with?
Can you form a study group with people in your dorm/classes so you get to know them better?
Have you talked to the Counseling center to see if they have anything of help?
Can you join a service group and meet people there?

How did you meet the people that were your friends in HS?

I’m also on the spectrum. You’re not alone in your experiences.

I don’t really like college parties either. I’ve only gone to like 2 that have both been for the theater group I’m in.
Don’t like sports games either for similar reasons

What kinds of activities do you enjoy? Maybe you can find a club that you enjoy? I’m involved with on campus research, a computing group, several music ensembles, and theater. I’ve found that music is where I’ve found the most people I connect to.

My daughter is not on the spectrum, but on the introverted side and a serious student. She has Netflix on her computer and an external DVD drive that can play movies. She and her roommates are not partiers, they actually tend to study some on weekend nights, but after they invite floormates to watch a movie, play games, pop popcorn or make bowls of Ramen and hang out. Sometimes they go for walks, or to a local museum that is free to students. You have to ask others to do things though, they can’t read your mind.

Also involvement in clubs or other activities helps you to meet others with similar interests.

Sorry for the late reply, I drove home for the weekend, and, with the attacks in the news, I forgot that I posted this thread.

I am part of the history club, and go to trivia, and that is where I met my only acquaintance. Tbh, I don’t really have much any other hobby.
