Ave Maria Law School

Hey,

Does anyone have any information about Ave Maria Law School?

In this forum, there is constantly threads about the questionability of lower ranked law schools. Certainly, Ave Maria fits into this category. Most graduates end up working in JAG.

Ave Maria:

poor alumni network?
waste of money?
intellectual?
good leadership (Robert Bork) ?

i live down the road from it now. things to know:

 • a lot of people get scholarships to go there.
• it’s extremely catholic/conservative
 • the person who created it (the founder of domino’s pizza) wants to move it to florida, where he’s building a catholic town surrounding a new university (also called ave maria)
 • faculty and students seem rather unhappy about this move, with votes of no confidence against the dean.
• they have a very high bar passage rate

Pretty good local rep. A lot of the lawyers in my area went to ave maria

A few thoughts…

I don’t know much about the school, so I can’t comment directly upon it. I would tell you that you should ONLY go to a school with such a ranking if you want to do what most of their graduates do.

You mentioned that a lot of them go into JAG. I looked at their mission statement and philosophy - seems like AM is a fairly conservative school. With more liberal schools, when grads can’t get jobs in firms, they do things like Legal Aid. JAG is a big one for the conservatives. Just warning you if you don’t want that type of atmosphere.
