Average HS SAT Score Range

Dufus, I couldn’t disagree more. The ability to think quickly on your feet and get something done with a high degree of excellence will serve you all through life. The SATs measure several things, IQ is correlated, asccuracy, the ability to focus, the ability to retain info that you have learned over a period of years…there is no doubt that people who do well on the SATs will excel in many ways in life and in careers.

Everybody evenly remotely connected with the SAT rush to say that it doesn’t have anything to do with IQ. I agree with “accuracy” provided you mean accuracy performed under time constraints. I agree with “ability to focus” provided you mean for short periods of time. Really, I have no idea what you mean about the “ability to retain info that you have learned over a period of years.” The questions on the SAT math are extremely easy for anyone who has passed Algebra provided they had enough time to do it. In order to do the questions quickly, you have to use tricks and techniques that only work on multiple choice tests.

The tricks and techniques have nothing to do with actual math. You may get a multiple choice question correct by plugging in numbers but you aren’t showing any math ability, proving a theorem, or showing the qualities that are most important for success in life such as work ethic, people skills, or organization skills.

I am not saying that someone who can naturally do well, or learn how to do well, on the SAT Math won’t also have other good qualities. However, anyone who can remember what was on the test after they get their high score should know that the test score, no matter how high for them personally, can not really mean much.

my old school was pretty average(but a few people above average w/ 4-5 going to ivies…but thats w/ 300+ in a grade) Tulane b4 Katrina was the top college people in my old town applyed too and some people r still applying…I had 2 people on my block alone who r back at tulane this semester went to hofstra(were 20 minutes from it) for the fall one but my new one is lets say we have people going to NYIT and people r lucky to get into CW Post( A pretty school…but 10 minutes tops from my house!) so r sats r low…probably a little above average for a special ed kid(were all some what special ed(im very little special ed…I will probably b valedictorian)
