What’s the difference between a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Science degree within the same major?

Check the requirements at the particular college you’re interested in. In the old days, in order to get a B.A., one had to take a certain amount of foreign language. B.S. had no such requirement. Anyone who wanted to go on to get a PhD. in a liberal arts subject needed the foreign language in order to meet PhD requirements.

I don’t know if this is still true today. I remember hearing that some universities allowed grad students to substitute computer language for foreign language requirements. Foreign language was required (and only specific ones were allowed) so the candidate could read papers in their field from other parts of the world.

The BS will require ALOT more science courses than the BA in the same major.

At my school (Baylor), the basic BA degree requires you to take more fine arts and history classes, and less math and science classes than the basic BS degree. (For both, you have to take a foreign language). Also, the BS major requires more classes in the field than a BA in the same major, and you have less choice as to what classes you want to take to fulfill that major.
