DH is doing this at his lab tomorrow! He plans to pick up stuff at Costco or the Fairway. Any thoughts? Seltzer? Diet soda? Hummus and crudites? A cake the expectant Mom can’t eat? Luckily no one expects too much from a scientist!

Hummus and crudites sound like a great idea. Whole wheat pita chips or bread? Baba ganoush would be ok too. Kalamata olives, low fat feta. Fruit platter might be ok. There will be other people there, after all. The mom-to-be will know what she can’t eat. Berries have a lower glycemic index so are better for people with diabetes than some other fruits.

Cheese and crackers? (Mom can have cheese, shouldn’t have many crackers.)

I’m sure she’ll be delighted with the party even if she can’t eat everything.

Mixed nuts and cheese. Veggies and dip. Mini cupcakes - the guest of honor can have one if they’re really small. When I had gestational diabetes, we were invited to a business chocolate party at the Ritz Carlton. We went, and I had only teeny nibbles - just one of the many sacrifices for DS!

Or little pieces of dark chocolate!

mathmom, I had a similar shower for S1 thrown by “the guys” (engineering company - only 2 other women and they were secretaries
at my office. It was wonderful and I so appreciated the effort. It won’t matter WHAT food her serves - she’ll be thrilled.

Thanks for suggestions! The young woman was impressed there was so much she could eat.

So glad it worked out!
