I have dark under eye circles and bags. I’ve tried many things and nothing helps much, despite the wonderful claims of each product. Is there ANYTHING out there that you have found to help with this problem?

There was a thread about this not too long ago: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parent-cafe/1063328-dark-circles-under-eyes.html

A friend of mine has very dark under-eye circles…her doctor told her it is due to allergies…have you been tested?

Yes I was tested and no allergies.

My guess is vitamin or mineral deficiency. possible anemia. go get blood work done

The only way to remove eye bag is surgery, that’s what I learned from more than 5 doctor visits.
As for dark circles, there many many reasons, it’s better to check with your derm doc.

I’m not sure about dark circles but I’ve discovered that I get bags under my eyes when I lack sleep.

Try cold compress eye mask. You can find it at bed bath and beyond or cvs, rite aid…
It’s good for eye bag (due to lack of sleep) and puffy eyes (maybe too much water during the night).

This is going to sound goofy…if you have an old set of ‘power beads’, roll them gently under the eyes, esp. effective if the beads are cold.

What are power beads and where do I get them?

I will check this answer out. I have bad dark circle.s

Too much Internet, lack of sleep, bad sleeping quality, smoking, allergy…
A gently massage will help too.

Power beads are those gemstone bracelets that were so popular a few years ago. You can still find them in some stores. Really, anything cold and rounded will help with the puffiness…back of a small spoon, a bottle of water…not ice though. You’d wind up with broke blood vessels.

There are tons of eye-creams in the world. Look for ones with caffeine to help with puffy eyes.

I hardly ever watch tv, but was stuck at home recently and this Dr Oz show that so many of my friends seem to watch came on… They were talking about the under-eye area and made up a cream of one pseudepherine tablet (crushed to a powder) mixed with a half teaspoon of face lotion. Supposed to tighten the skin within a half hour. Has anyone tried that one ?

In a similar vein, Preparation H is an old time remedy for under eye puffiness. I’ve never used it, although I would most definitely not put it on the eyelid - under the eye only. Many people say that it works well temporarily:

Dark circles under the eye are an entirely different beast. I have more of a purplish slash at the inner eye, rather than a dark circle - something I was born with and which is probably a side effect of my very pale complexion more than anything else. I used Hylexin religiously for almost a year, with no results. I do use a good eye cream which helps keep the skin under the eye stay smooth and in good condition, so when I apply my concealer, it looks good. The absolutely best concealer on the market today - very pricey, but it is a generous tube that will last for a good year:

Meh, in my opinion you should avoid trying to find “relief” or “treatment” and try to find the root of the problem. Unless you are pretty old, having bags and dark circles under your eyes in all likelihood means you are unhealthy in one way or another. it could be stress, or lifestyle, but it might also be caused by some deficiency, allergy, or other underlying problem. Do you feel excessively fatigued, by any chance?

I’ve had dark circles for as far back as I can remember, and added the bags about 10 years ago. The two times I wore contacts (only lasted a week each time–hated them), everyone at work kept asking if I was sick. Now I just get glasses frames that are the same shape as the circles.

I can’t speak to the bags (which I think are just an inevitable result of aging), but I’ve had dark circles under my eyes since I was a a kid, and they’ve only worsened with the years. This is a very common issue, and not a sign of illness or other “problem” unless a recent occurrence. It’s part genetic (my dad had them and DS does too), and I believe part the result of wearing eyeglasses–I think the pressure around the eye has an effect, just my personal theory, but I think eyeglass wearers are more prone to dark circles. In any event, there’s no cure, but there are tons of concealers on the market that hide dark circles nicely (more evidence that this is a truly widespread problem that has no “cure”).

I too have had dark circles my whole life and the bags as a result of age and weight gain during the last few years. One doc told me I have thin skin under my eyes, and the darkness is blood vessels. I didn’t wear glasses until recently. It’s not a sign of being sick or tired in my case, but genetics and bad luck I guess.

Says the 18 year old, lol. I think most of us are probably in his/her category of “pretty old”.

But seriously, I think some of us are just born this way and its not related to anything but genes and aging. I’ve had some variation of ‘bags under my eyes’ my whole life, same as my father did…and they have only gotten more obvious with middle age. Sigh…wish I had a suggested solution though!
