I have been using the original cream for many years now. Recently, I ran out of it and found there are several varieties of BKF on the market. Wonder if anyone has used them and what do you think of them.
The Ceramic and Glass top cream. This is about 3 times more expensive than the original cream, if you have tried it, would you recommend?
Now they have a dry powder version like Comet. Have you tried it? Can you compare it with the cream version?
I have both of those. Not going to lie, I wonder if they are largely the same product/ingredients just with different labels slapped on (like the cooktop cream and the pan cleaner cream).
But I like them both and would buy again. The powder works great on pots and pans. The cooktop cream I apply with a softish damp scrubby , let it dry a minute or two and then wipe off with a damp towel or rag. Even if I think there is not much debris on the stove top my rag is dirty!
I’ve only used the powder. But it’s been around forever. I love it. Best of the Comet type powder cleaners. Use it on all stainless stuff plus bathroom sinks, toilets, and showers.
I love the powder barkeepers friend and use it on both my stainless steel and cast iron enameled cookware, especially after cooking something starchy (rice, potatoes, etc). It’s the cleaner recommended by AllClad for their stainless steel cookware.
@taverngirl - do you use the powder just on the floor of your shower? I’m wondering if I should buy the cream and try it on my hard water spots on my shower glass. Has anyone done this?
My question is: why I have to pay three times as much to buy the ceramic and cooktop cream while the regular or original cream doing just fine with my cooktop and ceramic sink?
BTW, I just slap on the regular cream on the water stain yesterday in my bathtub and it worked just fine as well.
I totally agree about the odor. I’ve also used the powder for many years and bought the foam cleaner thinking it might be more gentle on my new sinks. I don’t like it nearly as much as the powder and won’t buy it again. Plus I feel like the powder gets things cleaner.
I have the Pots and Pans version under my kitchen sink and don’t see any difference in that and the original powder. I use it on my cookware and on the stovetop but will replace with the original when this one runs out.
I have the glass cleaner b/c it was recommended to use on my SUV’s mirrors. I had severe hard water stains that refused to budge no matter what I used on it. Took 5 minutes w/ the BKF glass cleaner and the mirrors looked like new.
I haven’t tried using it on my all-glass showers yet.
I grew up on Comet, but once I tried Bar Keeper’s Friend powder, I never went back. I love it - showers/tubs/sinks, pots and pans - I keep one in the kitchen and one in each bathroom. I tried the cream for something (?) but wasn’t quite as impressed.
I’ve noticed my glass shower doors have spots. Has anyone had success with the glass cleaner if the spots have been there awhile? I’ve only used the cream and do like it. This thread is telling me I’ve missed out on the powder. Will have to pick some up.
I love bkf, but I have only used bon ami cleanser on shower doors. It was recommended by a high end car dealer at some point and it works fine on glass.
The spots on my car mirrors had been there for over a year. I tried everything to get them off until I used BKF. It’s the only thing that worked and with very little effort on my part. I’m sure it would be great on water spots on your shower!
I’ve never used the BKF cream, but I do use the powder on my LeCreuset pots. It’s not as abrasive as kitchen cleanser. If I’m out of regular kitchen cleanser (I use Ajax with bleach), I’ll use BKF on the kitchen sinks.
I’ve been using the powder version of BKF on everything, including my stove grates and shower/tubs for 20+ years. A little bit goes a long way, and I love it.
Hint to those of you who have trouble with glass shower doors: Mine, in a rental house we owned, were so bad a few years ago that I had nothing to lose. So, I grabbed some 0000 steel wool I had, and a home made soap scum cleaner I use (blue dawn and vinegar…magic…google it) and went to town. My doors were like new and no scratches. That grade of steel wool is for polishing and it did just that. Now I clean all my shower doors with steel wool every time.
