I’m considering both ASU and UA, in which opinion which is better? What is the reputation for the Barrett Honors College or ASU in the Phoenix area, and what are my chances for admission?

I don’t know if it factors into the application but my major hobby and passion is making music. I’m a recognized producer/DJ in and around northern NJ/NYC, and I’m “climbing the ladder” to real recognition as a pro, although it’s not ultimately what I want to do unless opportunity really strikes (I want to double major in international studies and journalism).

I can’t tell you anything about reputation (though I’ve heard it’s pretty highly regarded), but I was accepted and will be attending Barrett next year.

I got in with:
Half Filipino, Half White Male from California
3.37 UW
1870 SAT (1330 M + CR; I think they only look at this score)
4 years- starting varsity baseball
2 years- ASB officer
2 years- California Scholarship Federation member
2 years- FBLA member
1 year- NHS member
1 year- Interact member
3 APs

I’d also like to say that my essay was really good; I talked about how I’ve always had an entrepreneurial drive but never took full advantage of it until this year when I started designing and selling my own t-shirts, and I tied that into how I wanted to go into business and that Barrett would provide me with a lot more opportunities.

Your stats look better than mine, so as long as you have a decent essay and recommendations (my two recommendations were also really good), I think you’ll do fine. Good luck!

I got in for next year andI had stats similar to yours, although mine were slightly higher, however your extra curriculars are really good and better than mine. Ultimately i felt like a border applicant. It will come down to your essays and letters of rec and since you want to go into journalism i imagine you have good writing skills. Good luck!
