@sushiritto I am not that old but my grandfather did try to set up my mom with Yaz when she was young and she said no! :)) I don’t remember how he knew him, he was a local politician though so he knew all sorts of people.
“Yastrzemski” was the surprise bonus word on one of my third grade spelling quizzes. I know I wasn’t the only one who got it right. The first time I saw Luis Tiant pitch I thought the crowd was booing him because everyone was chanting a low “Luuuuuis, Luuuuuis.”
I come from a family of Sox fans. My Dad watched them for years as the Boston Braves. In my house, unless you had a high temperature you were not allowed to skip school for any reason except for one day-Opening Day at Fenway. My ardor for baseball has cooled over the years but I’ve earned my stripes as a member of Red Sox Nation!
I’m a Mets fan who was rooting for the Sox for a number of excellent reasons. I sure hope that Billy Buckner moment is thoroughly erased for y’all–you’ve had a much better time of it since then than we have!
And you probably feel much better about the name Mookie!
Different team. The Braves moved to Milwaukee and then to Atlanta.
