Baylor Class of 2025 EA/RD

It seems like I’m the only one here who was denied from I2E which confuses me because I was accepted to the honors college and got the $92k scholarship but I got denied from I2E. My essays and stats were great, I’m just really confused right now.

Could it be that I missed their phone call and I’m from CT so they think I don’t want to attend? Should I call the admissions office or something?

Did you apply to Getterman as well? You might have just been overqualified for I2E. My D applied to Distinguished Scholar and got rejected as well.

I applied to Getterman’s but that’s not even appearing in my account, and Getterman’s applicants are required to attend the honors session at I2E I’m pretty sure.

I’m going to call the admissions office and see what happened I guess.

My daughter got a call from Baylor after her acceptance. The person was super nice and wanted to know if she was going to commit to Baylor. It wasn’t related to scholarship $ or anything else. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the post. I understand your D got the President’s Scholarship. If she gets the faculty scholarship as well ( or higher), which will cover the full tuition, then she can basically use the predeident’s to cover her other costs, meal, room or other personal expenses. Is that how it works?

I honestly don’t know how that works. I’m guessing that Baylor doesn’t stack their merit money; that a faculty scholarship would replace the President’s scholarship.

Just adding what I know after reading the previous posts:

My daughter applied in late August and was accepted at Baylor Premiere with the President’s Scholarship ($92,000). She received a follow up phone call asking about committing, and like other, we are not able to pay full cost of attendance (even with the President’s Scholarship), so she said that Baylor is one of her top choices, but she has to wait for the financial aid offer. She also received a certificate of admission in the mail and a letter, plus a t-shirt for attending Baylor Premiere (I think).

She applied to I2E and just had her Zoom interview today with her admission counselor. She is attending the Arts and Sciences session in late January. She is on the fence about applying to the Honors College as she feels like majoring in chemistry will be challenging enough.

In terms of stats, scores and ECs - many posting here seem to be as strong or stronger than my daughter’s. I’m wondering if major choice and/or state of residence plays a role in scholarship offers? Maybe it depends on your admissions counselor and how many applications they are reading from your area?

My daughter is pumped up about the prospect of attending Baylor, but needs to hear back from a few schools yet in terms of admissions and scholarship offers. She’ll be one of those waiting until March or later when the aid awards are finalized.

I am concerned reading this thread because my daughter applied very early (Aug/Sept) and hasn’t heard back. She is 2/223 in her class. Around a 4.5 weighted GPA. She has taken 14 AP classes, 4 DC and all other honors and Pre-AP courses with the exception of band and a health science class. Her EC’s are outstanding. She has been a class officer 3/4 years and is currently senior class president. She is Stuco pres. She is an officer in 4 other orgs this year. She is a drumline lieutenant in band. She was homecoming queen. Her recs are stellar and her principal, who is a Baylor grad, wrote her a glowing reference. Due to time constrainsts, she hasn’t done any tours (even virtual). So, could her lack of demonstrated interest be why she still hasn’t heard back? She is test optional. Any thoughts? She also has a hook…a degenerative nuerological disorder (she does NOT receive accomodations)…and I hate calling that a hook but wanted to fully disclose to get the best answers…Thanks for any responses…

I don’t understand this at all- your daughter sounds fantastic. I think I would have my daughter email the admissions person that was assigned to her for any questions, etc. and say something breezy- hey, I really want to tour Baylor, things have been so crazy, will tours be available ________ or is there a virtual tour that can be watched any time- I’ve been swamped/hard to travel/Covid/other, but I love Baylor…

Best of luck to her. We are first timers to the college application/acceptance process. I’m thankful for this forum (and spend way too much time on it) but I’m also thankful that my daughter is not on this forum- she would be a mess!

@steph1027 This is my 2nd time around with college admissions and it doesn’t get any easier…OBVIOUSLY! I think your suggestion is on point…now if I can convince my very strong-willed daughter to do it. LOL. And, yes, CC can be quite addictive…I have also spent way too much time on PrepScholar doing the “chance me” option. I try to stay away, but then I get wind of admissions going out at certain schools and I get sucked back in. Good luck to you and your girl. I don’t want to rush her senior year, but I will certainly be glad when the waiting and stressing about college admissions is OVER! Thanks again for your response!

Hi, your daughters STATS are far higher than my son who was admitted several weeks ago. Not sure how Baylor would know about any disability. My son has dyslexia and he stated that there was no where on the application to indicate any sort of disability (though he may have missed it :)). We did do lots on their website, videos, cost calculator and I think he attended a virtual session. He applied as a business major. From what I have read lots more girls apply than boys so that might have helped him. We live in Texas. He did not receive any merit money. If your daughter really wants to attend Baylor I am sure it will work out.

Something similar happened to me. They gave me an acceptance into Baylor and the Honors College with a $92k scholarship within a week of applying. I applied to Getterman’s and I2E and was denied from I2E (they said they’ll consider me for round 2) and didn’t even hear back about Getterman’s. I was really confused about why I was denied because my stats are way above the average that is accepted to these programs. I think they’re considering if the applicant will attend Baylor if they get accepted. From their perspective, I’m just an applicant that lives far away in CT and most likely won’t attend Baylor no matter what they do. They might be placing more weight on this than usual with the pandemic. What are the chances that an applicant that lives 2000 miles away is going to get on a plane and go to Baylor over another school?

I think in your situation they might think that your daughter is “overqualified” for Baylor and won’t attend even if she gets in. A lot of schools take a long time to make a decision if they feel that they’re being used as a safety school.

(4.33 weighted, 9 AP classes, 1540, national merit semifinalist, President of 2 clubs, lots of volunteering).

Anyone who already had their interview care to share any tips/questions? :))))

Another thought I had for those accepted with high stats, but not invited to the scholarship programs (yet): if you already submitted your FAFSA and CSS Profile, they know what your family’s EFC is. Perhaps they are first inviting those with higher financial needs?

Interview questions - yes! Trying to remember what my daughter told me. They discussed her major/career plans and accomplishments. My daughter said it was a relaxed conversation and was really enjoyable - the admissions counselor was “chill.” :sunglasses: It lasted about 15 minutes.

@antiquedealermom I applied from the UK mid/late-October and haven’t heard yet - not quite early Sept, but I’ve since been accepted to I2E and still have heard zilch from admissions. I asked someone from international admissions and they said there was nothing to worry about.

It probably depends much more on how many people apply from your area apply at the same time and how busy your daughter’s counselor is. I wouldn’t be worried in the slightest.

Thanks soooo much for letting me know!! I’m nervous about the interview but knowing that it’s chill definitely helps. @JenR8R also, to respond to your theory about financial aid being a factor, I sent the FAFSA to Baylor (not css) and I doubt my family will get any money. It does make sense to consider a family’s need but I was still invited to I2E and most likely won’t get any aid.

You could be right. To be honest, she hadn’t even considered Baylor until she got a call from a student in the summer and learned about the Baylor2Baylor medical program. This was really what piqued her interest in Baylor. Then, she got busy and missed the deadline to apply to B2B and so I don’t know how interested she really is in attending. I will just admit that I am a helicopter mom and my kid is obviously an overachiever and, of course, she wants to get acceptances to all the schools she applied to and weigh her options. Thank you for responding. I really appreciate it.

To clarify, the disability is discussed in her essay.
Thank you for responding. Hopefully we will hear something soon.

Does anyone know if Baylor will negotiate merit to compete with offers from other schools? My daughter received 11K more per year from another school. While Baylor is her first choice, the cost is a factor.

Depends on the school. If it was UT or TCU then it might matter. If it’s a random school in New York then they won’t care to give u more aid since the school isn’t competition. Hope that helps.
