Beach wedding formal - help!

We are going to the wedding in June of my husband’s neice and long time girlfriend. The dress code is beach wedding formal and I have no idea what I should wear. When I Google it is all dresses. I haven’t worn a dress in years - pants in cold weather and capris in hot is about it for me. Neither of the brides are wearing dresses so I think I can maybe get away with not a dress. But what? Any ideas?

Would capris be not formal enough? They would be my preference but I’m not sure. I have some nice ones with embroidery on the side (not colorful - tone on tone). Alternatively I have some linen trousers. Then I would have to think about a suitable top. The more dressy tops I have are synthetic fabrics which would be sweaty in June in Florida.

Help!

Palazzo pants maybe?

I was going to suggest Palazzo pants also. Is the beach wedding on the sand?

Yes, I think so. Wouldn’t Palazzo pants kind of drag in the sand? I like natural fibers if possible in the heat(lm not one of those ladies that merely glow, I sweat!). Would that be an option in Palazzo pants.

There is some very dressy linen out there (I’m not as good at links as some others here) that I think would work well for this scenario. Maybe beautiful linen pants with a dressy tunic in linen or another fabric you find comfortable? Dress it up with jewelry.

Let’s see what people think of these pants. https://www.chicos.com/store/product/knit+medallion+palazzo+pants/570229088?color=959&catId=cat8289646

Or these

These are expensive but what I was thinking of

What about something like this, better price point

Hmm, the linen pants I have are probably on the casual side except for one pair that are black.

I actually tried on a dress (first time in years) I really liked when we were visiting a friend in Florida in January. I was tempted but didn’t buy it cause I didn’t think I’d ever wear it. Kind of wish I had now!

I really am hoping to get something I will wear again. It’s turning out to be an expensive undertaking - the wedding is at a resort and the rooms are costing us over $1000 (though we managed to get a 2 bedroom villa so are splitting it with our son and his fiancee). We thought about staying at a nearby hotel but to get to the beach where the wedding is you have to take a trolley and you have to be a hotel guest I think.

I googled ‘loungewear palazzo pants’.
Here is one inexpensive option, but act fast! Add the right satin tank and accessories

Actually googled the linen tunics and found some pretty ones. That may be an idea to follow up on. A lot are quite casual looking so finding dressy ones may be the challenge. But definitely an idea - and something I’d wear again.

I think I’d wear a long skirt and a nice top and be done with it. I would want something I could wear again if I’m spending significant money on clothes rather than one time use only. I do wear my long skirts for the opera and other events.

BHLDN has some nice long skirts as I recall. I would not re-wear the pants in the above link again so wouldn’t want them added to my wardrobe.

why no dress option? If you are willing to do a palazzo pant, what about a maxi dress like this with an open front cardigan? https://www.jcpenney.com/p/premier-amour-sleeveless-floral-maxi-dress/ppr5007591114?pTmplType=regular&catId=cat100210008&deptId=dept20000013&urlState=/g/maxi-dresses-womens-dresses/N-bwo3xD1nnujcZ1z0pies&badge=new

Would you consider a flowy maxi dress? My go to attair for beachy things. Takes care of any leg concerns!

Fyi, I’m tall (5’10") and not skinny! I like to cover my upper arms and shoulders (not for modesty, just don’t care for the look of mine)

The Nordstrom ones @deb922 posted the link to are actually very similar in appearance to the wide legged linen pants I have. Do you think they are formal enough?

Men wear pants to weddings. If it were me I would look for linen or silk dress, short or long. No heels when and if you you are on the beach. Flip flops or barefoot. Just shake off the sand. And to keep your dress from flaring up have your tailor put in dress weights.

Pants usually serve as backdrop for tops. Add a pretty blouse to beige or white pants, and you are quite formal.

@swimcatsmom what color are your linen pants? You mentioned black up thread. I do not think I would wear black pants to a beach wedding - it just doesn’t seem appropriate. This Nordstrom pants are on the less dressy side IMHO but if you picked the correct top, shoes, and jewelry you could make it fit in for a beach wedding.

How about a skirt like this plus a nice top and a sweater in case of a breeze?

What do you think of this? (Not in white of course). Formal enough? (I’m not very formal - we wear jeans at work - it’s years since I’ve had to dress up regulary and I don’t miss it atvsll))

I love those Eileen Fisher pants posted above. There are billboards in one downtown bus tunnel station showing women in motion dressed in those pants , and every time I go down I salivate.

@surfcity kind of though the same about black pants. I have a flax (light beige?) color and a brick. I think the flax would be what I would wear if I went with the linen.

I’ve worn dressy pants with a nice top to every wedding I’ve gone to in the last few years except my daughter’s which was also beach but casual and I wore capris (my favorite wedding - so relaxed) They were all indoors though and those outfits definitely won’t work for a beach wedding and heat and sand.

The long skirts or even maxi dress might be something to look at.

Maybe I should stop at the store in Florida i went to with my friend on the drive down and check out their dresses. They were batik - really pretty
