beach wedding, help with a shawl, shrug, etc, please

May 6, beach wedding Key Largo, 6 pm, “attire: ‘beach chic’.” I totally love the dress and its colors but I need a wrap, light shrug etc. Like just a very light weight chiffon or simple lace something. Like many women my age, I’d prefer to cover my arms a bit. So any sites you have or know of that might carry something appropriate, please share. Thanks!!!

I am the least likely able to help with fashion sites, but I love that dress!

If you want something cheap and simple search Ebay for a Hijab shawl.

I’d vote for a sweater/shrug. I find shawls challenging in social settings as they tend to slip off and can be hard to juggle along with holding a glass of wine, juggling a plate of food or hand passed hors d’oeuvre, etc.

I agree with doschicos. Shawls look great, but they’re hard to keep on. If you’re busty, don’t buy a shrug. Instead, go for a light lacy or crocheted sweater. Just google “flyaway cardigan” and you’ll come up with something that should work. A shorter one will give your waist some definition with the dress, but a longer one will still be pretty.

Have fun picking one!

Lot of excellent options - all on sale.

Nice dress and BunsenBurner beat me to the punch here with a recommendation to look at Nordstrom. Lord & Taylor is also quite good with shrugs/shawls/light cover-ups.

Something like this lightweight 3/4 sleeve pointelle stitch linen sweater that would not be too warm if you’re looking at the cardigan option: http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/92391?feat=Cardigans-SR0&page=pointelle-stitch-sweater-button-front-cardigan&attrValue_0=Muted%20Lavender

Cardigans or shrugs over dresses are so dependent on proportion that I think the best bet is to take your dress to the store and try on a bunch of different options, even ones outside of your price range. Then when you figure out what proportions work with the dress you can search online for similar options in your price range.

I personally don’t think the longer cardigans would work with the dress because you would lose the advantage of the fitted part on the top of the dress.

If it were me, I’d go with a shawl because I look terrible in shrugs. (I’m too tall for shrugs; they make me look like I’m wearing shrunken clothes and emphasize the disparity between my skinny arms and my ample hips. Shrugs work best on classically proportioned people with a well-balanced upper and lower body).

What do y’all think of this one?

Cute, but don’t believe it will provide any warmth. Maybe good for office A/C.

How about this? Price is nice too. Chico Kirsten Cardigan

VA, that lace-bottom cover is cute but not what I would envision as a beach chic. To me, beach calls for cotton or linen (the top looks like it is synthetic fabric).

I agree with nottelling about proportions and body type. The dress looks perfect for the occasion. It appears to have an empire waist? If you can wear a shorter shrug, I think it would look nice. http://www.jcpenney.com/jsp/search/results.jsp?fromSearch=true&Ntt=shrugs&ruleZoneName=XGNSZone&pageSize=72

How about something like this?

Something like this might look pretty; it’s a shawl with sleeves: http://carlwinters.com/2015-new-arrival-hollow-smock-beach-dress-knitted-shawl-sweater-sun-protection-clothing-womens-waipi-p-3199.html I am not a fan of shrugs; doesn’t work for me because I’m short waisted and large bosomed.

Or something like this - can either leave hanging loose or tie at the empire waist of the dress: http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/niczoe-4-way-convertible-three-quarter-sleeve-cardigan-regular-petite/4182758?origin=category-personalizedsort&contextualcategoryid=0&fashionColor=Wisteria+Sky&resultback=570

I guess it would be good to have a sense of what degree of warmth you’d want from a covering. Personally, I’m miserable outdoors (or elsewhere) if I’m too cold and I do tend that way. Many of these lovely jackets don’t look very warm to me, but if you don’t require much would be lovely.

I guess that’s why I often pack with alternatives–something warmer and something lighter. I figure I can keep what I’m not wearing at my chair or in the car but I get hives if I’m too cold and don’t like perspiring if I’m way too hot (not a good look).

Pashmina and lightweight wool wraps can be knotted artfully to adjust warmth as you deem appropriate and may require less “fussing” to wear than some other options.

I agree you gave to try the outfit and layers all together and see how things “hit” to know how it will mesh together. Maybe an extra warmer layer over everything when temps drop later in the evening?

I like all of Marylin’s choices! I totally agree that shawls look nice, but are hard to manage with cocktail hour.

From the look of Key West average May temperatures, it’s unlikely to go below 70. I think OP wants something light and pretty to cover her arms, not to provide warmth. I had a stunning silk scarf that I wore with my dressy maternity clothes and one evening it literally floated off me and disappeared when we were going to the theater. We were with a group and hurrying so I didn’t even notice it was gone for a while. Still sad 28 years later. So I’m cautious about lightweight shawls.

Cute, but don’t believe it will provide any warmth. Maybe good for office A/C. >>>

Ha! It’s for Key Largo on May 6th. I am not worried about being warm! LOL.
