Bed Bath & Beyond might be discontinuing coupons

Yes, we had both near where I live. I could get better quality things at BBB for the price of lesser quality stuff at LNT. I thought - at that time - that BBB was an upscale store that had reasonable prices.

My problem with what looks like a great coupon is that it’s 20% off one item. I don’t tend to buy one big item there, but rather a bunch of little ones. So if I’m re-outfitting my kitchen with towels and dishcloths, that great-looking coupon turns out to be worth about $1.20. Unimpressed.

Once in awhile I do get 20%off entire purchase coupons, @lasma.

I’ve been reading the BB&B twitter feed and it’s safe to say there have been a number of questions about this. The answer from BB&B is that they will send coupons if you’ve signed up to receive them (free of charge) but they are dodging the question of whether coupons will still be coming in the mail to all postal customers. I’m guessing those will be the first to go.

If they will accept the paper coupons that I have stockpiled (including several 20% off full purchase) I am golden!

I need a 20% off full purchase! Do they look like the other ones that come in the mail?

@Madison85 Yes. They look pretty much the same, just different wording on what the 20% off applies to - one or all. You’d think they’d make them look different. @gouf78 needs to get on that in her new role revamping BBB’s marketing!

BBB will accept a stack of coupons at a time. If you don’t have a 20% off everything just bring in 10 coupons for your 10 items (I have a few I could give you…).

Glad you liked my ideas!

^^ I thought the rule was that you can only use 4 or 5 20% coupons in one order (one coupon for each item). I’m not aware that they allow anyone to use 10 coupons in one order.

I have always been able to use one coupon per item, or the $5 off for multiple small items. Many of the cashiers will actually let you know which coupons will net you the best benefit, although my higher level math skills allow me to figure it out all by myself!

Same experience as @snowball - have used many coupons at one check-out with many items.

I remember when one of my D’s did the pre-order process at BBB. Once at the BBB near D’s new college, I made sure I had a coupon for every last towel, organizing thing and do-dad I bought. No idea how many but could have been 25+. No limit to the number of coupons you can use.

It must be expensive to produce those oversized coupons and mail them, though. I see it as pretty wasteful too, since they could just have people provide their email (rather than home address) and send coupons via electronically.

I’ve used many coupons with one purchase. They have never said a word. And agree with @snowball, the clerks will. Tell you which deal is better. Why do they care how many coupons you use? You could simply ring them up as separate purchases.

BBB could just discount everything in the store by 20% and do away with the expensive, mass mailed coupons (not to mention the administrative and labor costs to implement them at the registers, process them, etc.)

But that would expose the truth that their prices are just inflated to accommodate the coupons.

The cost of these coupons must be worth it to BBB to perpetuate the fiction that it’s smart shoppers are getting a good deal.

But I had a coupon, so of course it was a good deal. I got it on sale!

My BBB store doesn’t allow multiple coupons in the same transaction or separate transactions to use multiple coupons.

@madison85 - I’ve used BBB coupons in three states, and there has never been a limit on how many I could use in a single transaction. That’s very interesting. I wonder if the policy is set on a store-by-store basis?

What state are you in Madison? I’ve used them in multiple stores in at least 6 states and never had that issue.

I collect the coupons. When S moved to start his job after college I used 15+ coupons when we upfitted his apartment from nothing. The total bill was $700+ in the end so it saved a lot. The convenience of finding it all in one place is worth keeping track of the coupons. The mobile coupons do expire. I have since collected one of the coupons that covers entire purchase. Jackpot! Saving for the appropriate time.

btw - my brother jokes that BBB is Bed Bath and Beyond my Budget. Hehe.

Time to find a different store @Madison85.
