Bentley vs. UVA

I’ve had this question stressing me out for weeks, and I hope someone can come to answer it.

I’m very interested in marketing (specifically in the fashion field)

Would it be better to go to U. Va, Bentley, or a fashion school? Which would be easier to get a job with?

Because Bentley & fashion schools are more focused on marketing/fashion, I feel that that would appeal to some employers. However, U. Va is also a really good school, so I can’t seem to decide what would be better.

We can’t really tell you about the other schools, but we can tell you about UVA. Maybe check out the forums for the other schools, too.

When studying business, I think it’s smart to get a degree that can be versatile. After all, multiple career changes seem to be pretty common these days. The McIntire School of Commerce at UVA is very well-known and can probably open doors in many fields.

FWIW, take any industry and I’m sure you will find highly successful people who have degrees from all kinds of schools.

@“Dean J” Thank you, I wasn’t very aware of UVA’s fashion association.

Also, I had another question.

I do have a fashion marketing class in my school, but (for obvious reasons) it’s not weighted. However, classes like AP psychology and extra languages can better my application.

What would be better to apply to? Fashion marketing may lower my GPA, but it could show colleges I’m dedicated. Psychology is also a class I wanted to take for a while, but it may look like I’m just trying to suck up to my grades. I can’t decide which would be better!

I would try out the subject in high school to help you determine whether it is what you really want to study.

You’ll have to define “extra languages.”

Electives are great, but they should not take the place of core subjects, like foreign language or social science.

@“Dean J” I’m already taking spanish as a foreign language. Psychology/any other additional languages (adding in french, latin, etc.) is counted as an elective (just like fashion marketing.) Except AP Psych is weighted, and languages may be impressive, but wouldn’t fashion marketing show my dedication?

@Charliesch But it just worries me whether the lowered GPA is worth the risk or not

Yikes! You would forgo taking a class in a field you are considering as a career to gain the slightest GPA bump from a non-core AP class? Do you have any APs in core classes?

@Mom2twins But the issue on whether it’s something I really do want to take as a career is still wavering

^^^ Even MORE reason to take this class rather than padding a fictional resume. You are talking about applying to fashion- specific schools/ programs. How will you sort this out without such a class? What information will you gain from AP Psych? Again, I wonder what core AP classes you have.

@Mom2twins It’s just that the effort I’ve put into up to now, I don’t want it to lower because of one class. Of course, I take fashion marketing programs out of school, so the issue now is whether to apply to show it on my app, or to higher my GPA. I’m taking math, english, history in AP since science hasn’t always been my thing.
