Berkeley Regents 2018

Hi
I have a few questions about the Berkeley Regents scholarship. What percentage of students invited to interview for Regents get selected? Is it need based and purely academic? How much is the scholarship for?

Oh I found a link on the net that gives quite a bit of information
https://students.ucsd.edu/finances/financial-aid/types/scholarships/freshmen/regents.html

The site you listed is for UCSD, not Berkeley and each campus is different as far as how they pick Regents Scholars.

Thanks for pointing it out.

It is a great point… how do they pick their students in the different UCs. If you have any information, I would greatly appreciate knowing. Thanks.

I’m sorry to say my knowledge is limited on the Regents selection process since, as I’m sure you’ve already realized, there really isn’t much out there. The number selected tends to hover around 200 scholars chosen per year for Berkeley. As a freshman there is an interview process, but there are other people much more knowledgeable on what that is like than I am. The numbers on how many students are invited is much less clear, but most sources say that about 2% end up getting the invitation. Anyway, Berkeley and UCLA are distinct from the other UCs in that they have another application process for the regents scholarship, while the others make selections exclusively based on the UC application. There are also some slight differences in the award amount, but it’s generally somewhere around $2500 per year.

Oh wow. In the letter it mentioned that 89000 people applied this year to Berkeley. It means that roughly a little under 1800 students got invited. And from that say 4-600 will be selected and 200 will accept and join.

I am a candidate for the scholarship as well. Best of luck!

I found this link just now. It is pretty helpful. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-berkeley/2053577-ask-about-regents-here.html#latest

yo anyone know when they release regents results after the interviews?

I think 2% of admitted students are offered, and 1% admitted students actually end up as Regents scholars. Regents is known as the top 1% of academically admitted students. Good Luck. The best thing about it is guaranteed housing all 4 years and priority registration for classes.

@kevbostic I think the results are released at the time of the portal update for regular decisions

anybody know if they’ll have ROHP any more after the April 13 date?

also do you know if registration is required for cal day?

I think April 13 is the last one.

does anyone have an idea when the Regents scholarship notification will be?

It will be on the day that the results are announced.

@itsyaboiUCLA Hey so you said the Berkeley and LA do the regents differently in that they require and extra application process. I guess things might have changed, cuz Davis just gave me the invitation but it requires an extra application that consists of essays and a letter of rec.

@ericbadmon No that is not true. UC Berkeley does not require an extra application for regents. Anyone who applies to UCB is automatically considered for regents. Feb 9 regents candidates get notification of their status. Then they just have to do an interview.

Found out my daughter received this scholarship today. But I cannot see any details on her CalCentral Portal.

Congrats Avocadudette Eribadmon, Colleges CAN ask for extra letters of recommendation or clarification but they do not have to. It is optional. The rules may vary from UC to UC about interviews and other details. UCLA and UCB have a different process than other UCs but other UCs may also be changing their way of evaluating.
