Best boarding schools for a black, gay boy

Does anyone have any suggestions for northeastern boarding schools which are most welcoming to a black, gay boy? He has above-average intelligence and board scores. I just don’t want to leave him in an environment where he will be scarred for life because of negative reactions to who he is. Which of the top boarding schools are most welcoming (where they don’t just talk about diversity, but they really embrace it from the administration on down)? We are considering the following schools: HADES (Hotchkiss, Andover, Deerfield, Exeter, St. Paul’s) and Choate. I appreciate any and all advice. Thanks.

I think you are going to have to get on campus and feel it out for yourself.
I would also add Loomis to your list.

If you go to the front discussion page on CC and scroll down, you will find in the pre college issues, or something, section, a boarding school section. I’d go there and post this. A lot of parents and BS kids post there, and they might be able to point you in the right direction.

good luck.

Try the Quaker boarding schools. They have very deep beliefs in equality and diversity, and they have excellent academics. George School and Westtown are the first ones I can think of, but there must be more. If you live near a Quaker day school, that could be an excellent option.

Thanks for everyone’s help. I will take all your advice.
