I used to spend the big bucks on Estee Lauder mascara, but my last two purchases hardly lasted a month. Now I have been trying other brands like Cover Girl and Loreal. I am not happy with them either. I don’t wear a lot of makeup - just mascara, blush and lip gloss. Any suggestions?

After a lifetime of using Maybelline, I switched to DiorShow. Love it.

I’ve switched back and forth, trying most of the department store brands at one time or another (not DiorShow though–where do you find it?)

Anyway, I’ve always gone back to Maybelline, now especially that they have one with a very fine brush. I can’t recall the name of it, but it promises to get to the “little tiny lashes”. And I need waterproof. I’m always open to new ones, but for the money, Maybelline definitely delivers.

I used Aziza mascara with sealer for many years but I can’t find it anymore.
It is the only one I have tried that really stayed put all day.

I use to wear Clinique, which I loved, but switched over to Cover Girl when I learned they don’t test on animals. (Yes, this was many moons ago.) I have tried Maybelline several time, but I have trouble getting Maybelline off. Cover Girl seems to wash off easily and, yet, doesn’t smudge. Cover Girl has a new Lash Buster that really does lengthen lashes. I have short, short, short lashes and with this new mascara they are actually longer. I recently tried the Maybelline volume mascara, but, again, I end up with a smeared mess every night after I wash it off. The racoon look just doesn’t look good on me. So, Cover Girl it is.

I like the old school Maybelline. I also will second Dior Show. It’s pricier than the Maybelline, but very good.

I’m a Lancome Definicils fan. It lengthens my lashes, never clumps and I don’t have a smudging problem as the day wears on. I also sometimes use their Hypnose to add fullness.

I still use that silly pink & green Maybelline tube. I have been allergic to some others so just stick with what works. My DD does not think it dried fast enough and uses MAC

and you can get Maybelline in the “family pack” at Costco. With the number of females in my house, it’s a no-brainer.

I used Lancome and Chanel for years, because they made mascaras that didn’t run on me. For the past few years, I’ve used Maybelline Full 'N Soft. I get the non-waterproof version (dark blue tube). It works well and does not smudge, washes off easily. Waterproof mascaras don’t work for me; if a mascara does not dissolve in water, then it dissolves in oil and, therefore, will run under my eyes.

Makeup Alley is a great resource for user reviews of cosmetics.

I’ve used Mabelline since high school. Some years ago I thought it was time to “grow up” and move on, and tried several other brands, that I didn’t like as much. Then Consumer Reports came out and rated Mabelline tops, so I went back to it. I like the non-waterproof best, but I’ve used both.

I used to be a strictly department store makeup girl–mostly clinique, though I never loved their mascara. I started trying different stuff from Target because I just didn’t want to spend the big bucks on mascara anymore and I’ve been mostly satisfied with the results. Currently I use Maybelline Define-A-Lash mascara and I like it because it stays on well but washes off easily. I used the Loreal Double Extend Lash Extension mascara, and I liked it, but it’s a two step process and I didn’t want to fool with it in the summer.

It certainly depends on what you’re looking for, but I haven’t liked Almay or Neutrogena too much. They work o.k., but I’m looking for lenghtening more than anything and those just didn’t have enough oomph. I don’t wear much makeup–no foundation or blush–and only occasionally use shadow or liner. It’s usually concealer under the eye and mascara and lip gloss. I need the mascara to darken and lengthen my lashes because they’re blond and I hate that rabbit eye look I have without it.

The thing I like about buying my mascara at Target is that I can try different ones and different looks without feeling like I’ve made a major financial commitment. If I spend $35 on a tube of mascara you can bet I’m going to finish it whether I tire of the look or not.

I agree with all those who said Maybelline. It’s cheap and quite decent.

I’m in the middle of trying a tube of Almay, since I have very dry eyes and any mascara irritates them, but I haven’t figured out yet if the Almay makes a difference.

I don’t like the waterproof stuff – I have to really scrub to get it off at night, and even that bothers my eyes.

I use Maybelline fr. Target too. I use those premoistened make-up remover towelettes to take it off at night…comes right off. Target has their own store brand version of the make-up remover that is less expensive and works just as well as name brands.

The OP probably doesn’t want to hear this. I’ve tried everything–from Maybelline to vibrating wands (Estee Lauder and Lancome) to Kiehl’s (based on a recent Washington Post review), but even if I think something’s okay, I always come back to. . . Estee Lauder More Than Mascara. For me it’s just right–not too heavy, not too light, stays in place, lasts, comes off (vs. waterproof mascaras).

That said I can’t remember the last time I bought a full-sized tube. Either wait til some department store has an EL gift-with-purchase or go on eBay–where enterprising people are always selling those freebie give-aways. (That’s also a great way to try an expensive product you don’t want to pay full price for.)

I like Bobbi Brown. Doesn’t run, comes off easily though, and looks natural with no clumps at all.

Maybelline for many years, but I recently got a free sample of Clinique (black tube) and really like it.

Ah, I love these threads at the end of a long, long workday.

I have gone back and forth with Clinique, Aveda and drug dtore brands…the one I reall like not is Clinique…don’t have it in my hand at the moment , but it has a small wand. Stays on beautifully and washes off even better.
No raccoon eyes, even when crying or getting stuck in the rain!

Too Faced Lash Injection & Givenchy Captiveyes in Dandy Black

do not like amy drugstore brands & DioShow makes my eyes look weird

Lancome for me…but a month is all I get out of it too.
