Best Club Position to Run For as a Rising Sophomore?

I’m part of my school’s TSA (Technology Student Association) club and I wanted to run for an officer position next year. Nominations are due May 26th, so I need to make a decision by then. My friend (who is a current sophomore) suggested that I run as vice president to her president. I would like that, but the problem is I don’t have close ties with a majority of the students in the club. Also, since I am only a freshman, there are way more qualified student than me. However, I really want to be an officer, but I’m not sure I could secure the vice president position given the amount of time I’ve been apart of TSA.

What do you guys think is the best position for me to run for given my circumstances?

I think you are qualified to run for either position, The nominations aren’t due until May 26th so with the time you have left I think you should form and strengthen your relationships with the other members of your TSA club. Get people to know who you really are, and you’ll probably have a good chance in getting nominated.

But is a week and a half long enough? I’m kind of shy, and I’m afraid that they’ll think I’m way over my head, even though I really want to be VP

Most club elections are popularity contests anyway, so good luck. Also, you are a freshman who isn’t as experienced as the other members, so you have to make up for your inexperience with charisma or humor; just being a smart student or a good member isn’t enough unless you run unopposed or against a seriously bad candidate.

Colleges would generally expext that you have leadership positions Junior year, so if you don’t get it this time then that is okay. But VP woudl be good as you could then look to become president junior year.
