Hi, I’m new here. I graduated from high school in 2017 and I am currently doing a foundation program in University of Lagos ( a University here in Nigeria) but I would love to study in the US for much better education as I can see that the facilities and the quality of teaching is not up to scratch. I graduated as the salutatorian of my school with 8 A’s and only one B in the national exams and I have taken the SAT with two months of practice and I got a 1403 ( 780 Math and 650 R/W, I could have tried harder practicing for the reading section). I have currently applied to only one college ( Baylor University in Texas) and procesing my applications for Howard University but I know I would need to apply to many other and I am hoping for any scholarships. Could any one advice any other colleges?? I am currently in charge of my application due to my parents business and they only give me money for the applications when I ask and they can;t pay for an admissions personnel because they are all too expensive.
Admissions are limited for international students especially if you need funding to attend. You can look at the sites of the universities you hope to attend and see if they meet need.
what major are you looking at?
And if you are applying as a transfer student, spots and funding are even harder to get.
Have you been to the EducationUSA office in Lagos? The counselors there should be able to help you. EducationUSA is a not-for-profit organization, and any fees charged should be minimal.
Probably the most important question is: What can you afford?
If you can afford to be full pay (possibly $75,000 per year) then there are lots of colleges and universities in the US where you could study – thousands of them. If you could afford $40,000 per year then there are still quite a few schools to choose from. If you could barely afford a plane ticket to get to the US and need a full scholarship that covers everything then it would be quite a bit more difficult to find a school to attend in the US.
Other important questions: What do you want to study? Do you have preferences regarding location, city versus small town versus rural, north (cold) or south, east or west? Large school or small?
There are many very good universities in the US. There are also good schools in Australia, Canada, Europe, and other places. Costs will vary considerably.

Thanks for all your replies
What’s your budget?
An issue is that it’s very late to apply - most merit deadlines were October 14-dec1. Can you take a gap year?
