I’m looking for good schools within an hour of Detroit. I don’t know much about the area, but my family is moving there and I’m looking for a residential school with a good business program.

…Michigan is best far the best school in that area, in fact best as far as you go until you reach Chicago (Northwestern and UChicago)

Honestly, it depends upon what type of student you are. The two best universities with an hour of Detroit are…
Wayne State, which is large, fairly easy to get into (but getting much tougher, according to my mom, who works there), it has a very nice honors college, and great athletics (largest DII school in the nation; went to the DII football championships, won the women’s (and possibly men’s, not sure) swimming national championships, etc. However, it has a “commuter” feel, as many suburban kids attend, and is in the heart of downtown Detroit (which isn’t bad at all; people don’t realize how nice the true Detroit is. The outlying community is the “rundown”/“bad” area, but Detroit is actually a pretty cool city), which can be a negative to some.
Oakland University - Don’t know as much about OU; it’s got pretty good athletics, OK academics, and i’m not to sure about what else. However, it has an even more commuter feel than WSU.

Honestly, UMichigan is by far the best university in the state. Kalamazoo and MTech are the next tier, followed by Hope and MSU. Wayne is in the next tier with Central, and then a slew of other colleges below them. I would expand your view to more than an hour from Detroit, however, as many of the higher end colleges are only a bit farther (UM is just under two hours, depending on your navigation skills)

An hour south of Detroit gets you to Toledo, so you could look into University of Toledo, and slightly further south, Bowling Green State University. You could also go East into Canada and look at the Windsor University just across the border, the University of Western Ontario in London which would be about 2 hours or McMaster University in Hamilton (3 hours).
