<p>I’m having about 30 people over for a BBQ on July 4 and some of them are vegetarian. Do any of you have opinions about which veggie burgers have the best taste and texture?</p>
<p>I personally like the Boca burger, particularly if you are going to grill them. Another good option is the Yves Veggie Dogs. The garden burgers which are more grain based don’t hold up as well on the grill. The Boca is soy based.</p>
<p>My daughter swears by Morningstar Farms (garden veggie patties). These are made with vegetables and only have a little soy and the taste is really good. I agree with her. We have both Bocas and these right now and the Morningstar Farms patties taste a LOT better.</p>
<p>just make regular burgers and trick them into eating them.</p>
<p>If the people are vegetarians, it may be the case that they do not want their burgers grilled on the same grill with the dead animals. You might want to ask them first. I would suggest the morningstar veggie burgers.</p>
<p>I have some Chipole Black Bean burgers on the grill right now! I’ll let you know how we like them in half an hour.</p>
<p>Sierra Club magazine just interviewing noted ranchers about their veggie burger preferences. One rancher said he likes the vegetable masala burgers available at Trader Joe’s. They taste nothing like hamburger, but are wonderful in their own way.</p>
<p>Buy some Tonkatsu sauce from a Japanese grocery store. A little bit of that makes any veggie burger taste delicious!</p>

<p>MorningStar burgers are DELICOUS. Also their “corndogs” . . . They taste exactly like real corndogs, it’s glorious. There’s another brand I like, but the name escapes me right now.</p>
<p>Morningstar has some great flavors. And I absolutely love TJ’s masala burgers.</p>
<p>Dont try to trick anyone, unless you don’t want those friends (I’m sure this goes without saying.)</p>
<p>Most vegeterians I know don’t mind things cooked on the same grill, but it’s worth asking. They might want to cool their own inside instead.</p>

<p>I have never met any vegetarian who would tolerate cooking his or her food on a grill after meat was cooked. It may be that some people think they are vegetarians because they do not eat cow meat but they still eat chicken. Unfortunately, those people are misinformed. They are not vegetarians. A vegetarian does not eat any type of meat, chicken, or fish. Some vegetarians will eat eggs and milk. Some vegetarians who are vegan do not eat eggs or milk or any other product derived from animals.</p>
<p>If a veggie burger is cooked on a grill with cow grease, the person eating the veggie burger is not a vegetarian at that time.</p>
<p>I like the Morningstar veggie pattie, I think because they don’t try to taste like a hamburger. DH likes the Bocca. They all taste great with lettuce, tomato, and a slice of onion - yumm!</p>
<p>Most “vegetarians” I know are not true vegetarians, so they would not mind. However, you should ask and find out how strictly they feel about meat. I took the trouble to cook two turkeys one Thanksgiving–one organic, one regular, and kept everything separate. Also made a vegetable stuffing for the vegetarians. 30 for dinner, and some were organic foodies, some were vegetarians, some were Atkins diet folks. Had a tenderloin roast, two turkeys and a vegetable curry as the main dishes. To my surprise, they all tried everything after all of the trouble I took to keep it separate. They were not that heavy duty vegetarians. Just folks trying to stay away from meats most of the time, but would make an exception now and then.</p>

<p>I don’t eat much meat- grosses me out plus allergy issues. I* will *eat meat occasionally depending on situation- but not lamb/pork/veal. If you want to be anal about it ;), you can say that I am not a vegetarian- however, when attending a large function, it is much easier just to say I am, then to get into this laundry list of things that I will or won’t eat. Easier for me- easier for the host.</p>
<p>I have never heard of anyone being offended if their food is cooked on same grill- however those who have religious requirements for their food will have stricter guidelines.</p>
<p>People are often switching to vegetarian " meat" strictly for health, not esthetic or taste issues- I bet if you make enough for people to have a choice- that all your food will be gone!</p>
<p>I wouldn’t try to trick my friends, but I got a laugh out of the idea. I’d forgotten about portabellos. The garden burgers sound good. I have something to cover the grill with if anyone is strict. Thanks for great suggestions and Happy Fourth!</p>
<p>i find wrapping the veggie burger in aluminum foil on the grill works quite well (the thought of my veggie burger sitting in the meat grosses me out…). and morningstar is my favorite.</p>
<p>Well I’m a vegetarian and I’ve tried just all of the major brands such as Dr. Pragers (sp?), whichever one Costco uses, GardenBurger, Morning Star, and Boca.</p>
<p>I would say that what you buy depends on their tastes. For example, if they are vegetarians but enjoy the taste of meat then I would say the best route are the Morning Star Grillers. These patties taste nearly identical to beef but are a little bit more dry. Kind of like a well-done burger. So wrapping these up in foil for the grill would be perfect, not to mention more veg-friendly. Morning Star also makes great fake chicken. </p>
<p>If there are vegetarians that don’t like the taste of meat who will be attending, then I suggest the Original GardenBurger. They don’t taste anything like meat but they are downright delicious. I can never have just one. </p>
<p>As the above poster said, wrapping the veggie burgers would be best in order to keep them together but also to keep them separated from the meat-“juice.” Not only is it a matter of preference for the vegetarian but if they have been strict in their diet for a long time the meat-“juice” can make them ill. </p>

<p>I like the Boca Flame Grilled and the Gardenburger Black Bean Chipotle burgers. I use several of the Gardenburger varieties in salads and in Naan bread sandwiches with veggies. I like all the burger varieties with a dash of creamy vidalia onion dressing. As an aside, my D loved the Morningstar corn dogs and chicken nuggets when she was younger. My favorite soy dogs as Smart Dogs.</p>
<p>My D and I are vegetarians and we love the Morningstar Farms black bean burger. And there are lots of ways to dress it - for a twist offer it with guacamole and salsa! I have lots of meat eating relatives, including my husband, who ask for these when they come to visit because they taste so great. And they do great on the grill.</p>
<p>If you put it on the grill and it in any way touched the meat or the meat juices my D would not be able to eat it. I ate meat for many years until my D became a vegetarian so it wouldn’t bother me but it definitely would her.</p>
