There is no major or university that will secure a job in an M&A department. One does not have to major in Business (Finance or Accounting) to land a job in IBanking or M&A. I would say going to any elite university (not just the Ivies) helps, but it also depends greatly on a person’s profile (temperment, composure, presence, background, general culture etc…). Here are a few universities where if you do well in school, regardless of the major, and take a proactive approach to your job search, M&A jobs could open up:

Indiana is one of my favorite schools. I love Bloomington, Indiana’s campus and the general atmosphere. But I would not recommend Indiana (even Kelley) to a student who really wants to go into Investment Banking. Of course, a student can get an awesome education at Indiana and land a job with an Investment Bank, but if we are talking about maximizing one’s chances, Indiana is not the way to go.

As for OSU, they had the nerve to beat us this year (4th time in 5 years), so I am a little touchy when it comes to the Bucknuts! hehe

Alexandre, what do you think the recruiting is like at Kelley for other fields related to the stock market besides investment banking? Everyone can’t get into Michigan. Indiana looks pretty nice on the web, and they have tons of classes. They even have a market making class (in stocks) which I haven’t seen anywhere else.

As for Ohio State, my son flew to Michigan to visit his sister and watch the “Big Game”. It was a bummer.

Kelley is a top 15 Business school, so clearly, the opportunities will present themselves. The huge accounting firms (KPMG, D&T, PwC etc…) love recruiting at Kelley, as do many of the large manufacturing firms like Ford, P&G etc… Also, many of the big banks, like Citigroup, Bank of America, Wakovia, Chase Manhattan, Wells Fargo etc…actively recruit at Kelley. Below is a link that tells you where Kelley students ended up after graduation. The list is impressive indeed.

Alexandre: i think UVA should be in the first group. in term of recruiting, we definitely beat that of “haverford college” or notre dame and several other universities/colleges in the first group. give me some reasons why you put it in the second group. it’s way better in the majority of the schools in the second group.

does cal tech get heavily recruited at all?

Is there a specific reason that those schools are all good for I-Banking over others who are just as high ranked? I believe UF’s finance program was ranked top 20 or so, is there a reason it is not as good as other universities? (I’m planning on being industrial and systems engineering, not finance, but still).

Alexandre, why do you say Notre Dame over Washington U? Do they have better oncampus recruiting? I was just wondering because I know that WashU’s Olin undergrad business program is ranked much higher than Notre Dame’s.

I think Notre Dame has a stronger network and stronger ties to Wall Street. And Olin is not ranked “much higher” than Notre Dame B school. Olin is usually ranked anywhere from #11-15 and Notre Dame between #20 and #25.

Hi Dear, i want to ask you about concordia university and the electrical engineering program offered by this university if you have any information plz help me
