If you don’t have access to a pool, what is the best alternative way to get ready for swimming? like running, or crunches?

I do this every two days:
50 pushups
running 2 miles
50 situps and 50 cruches
300 jump ropes
100 jumping jacks
50 squatthrusts

every week i try to go to the weightlifting room at my high school and do 2 sets of 8 of just different exercises like leg extensions, pull downs, tricep extensions, leg curls, cleans, squats

i’m a girl so if you’re a guy, you might have to adjust how many of each you do and stuff :]

Instead, of working on all your muscles one day, and resting all your muscles the next, I would suggest that you alternate daily between muscle groups that you work, so that no group gets overworked and at least one group is atm working. Or you can alternate strength and cardio training, and throw in a bit of endurance and cross training for variety.

I can’t really be more specific than that, as a training regime would require that you provide your current skill level and what your aiming for. Workout plans for long distance swimmers are different from those for 100M swimmers and Breast stroke training is different from butterfly training et cetera. And I don’t quite know much about swimming, having never bothered to really train for it myself. ;)

Lift weights and run.

Thanks for the advice,

i really want to train for the 500m and the backstroke. Does anyone have a workout regime for these two specific events?
