<a href=“Comedian Tracy Morgan critically injured in NJ Turnpike crash”>http://news.yahoo.com/comedian-tracy-morgan-critically-injured-103905977.html He is in critical condition but the extent of his injuries ae not reportd. His youngest child isnt even a year old… Hope he is ok.

Prayers for a complete recovery!

Wow, Hope he’s going to be okay. He’s in intensive care.

Sure hope it’s not a head injury. This doesn’t sound good.

Nrdsb4, I was thinking the same thing.

Most people unfortunately don’t wear seatbelts when riding in larger vehicles (busses, limos, etc). This one did overturn. Hoping for a complete recovery. The tractor trailer that hit them was, I believe, a Wal Mart truck.

If you haven’t see video of the bus limousine, you’ll cringe when you see it. Crushed!

Oh geez, he was just in Seattle last week.
Best wishes, Tracy.

Yes, the photos of the damaged vehicle are awful. It likely wouldn’t have mattered if someone sitting in the rear of that vehicle had a seatbelt on or not.

Hes still critical, but his publicist says is more responsive.

Why was the truck driver charged BEFORE an investigation was well underway? Incidentally, glad to see Walmart company’s quite responsible public statement regarding the accident.

Perhaps someone looked at his Twitter account?
They possibly arent investigating fault, as it seems clear he was at fault, but whether it is true that he hadnt slept for 24 hrs.

“Why was the truck driver charged BEFORE an investigation was well underway?”

They will generally charge someone as soon as they have sufficient evidence to do so, because once someone has been formally charged with a crime the police and DA get access to a more useful set of legal tools for investigating the case. The basic and undisputed facts of the case revealed in the first few minutes of investigation likely passed that threshold that would allow them to prefer charges - it was essentially a “smoking gun” kind of case! At this point, I think investigation is focused on more fully understanding all the details that would possibly lead to modifications of the charges, criminal or civil penalties against others, or adjustments in prospective sentencing.

“Incidentally, glad to see Walmart company’s quite responsible public statement regarding the accident.”

What else could they do? They apologized and offered to take legal responsibility if they are at fault… which is what they would have had to do anyway. To me, the questions should be:

How much of the responsibility are you going to take and how much are you going to push off on others, later on, in the closed rooms where the public won’t see, months from now when no one is paying attention any more?

To the extent that this was the result of policies (like hiring bottom-of-the-barrel drivers and then overworking them), will Wal-Mart change those policies?

D2 and I were driving back from an Oklahoma soccer tournament once when we passed a XXXX Adult Video store. There was a HUGE Walmart truck parked in front of it. LOL, we wondered if corporate would have been pleased with that. Maybe the truck was delivering a video, but I sincerely doubt it. Maybe the driver was just taking a rest break. ;)

FWIW, I checked with a couple of trucker friends, and they say that Wal-Mart is pretty strict on safety with their drivers, and doesn’t have a reputation for setting the kinds of goals that makes drivers push beyond safe limits. They did say that the stretch of road in question was pretty bad.

It is likely they have enough evidence to establish probable cause. Especially considering from what has been reported, Morgan’s vehicle was struck hard from behind.

In that situation, the fault would obviously be laid at the feet of the driver who rear-ended Morgan’s vehicle. That was the case when my friend’s truck ended up being rear-ended twice within a matter of months while driving in the Boston area. In both cases, the other driver was found to be 100% at fault.

The above reference to Twitter, was the bio phrase " Move or get hit!", on truck driver Kevin Ropers acct., which has since been changed.
Its a blessing that his fiancee and baby daughter weren’t in the limo, but it is a great loss of his writer and close friend.
Its also been rumored that he will lose his leg, but better his leg than his life.

Fair enough and reasonable, Cosmicfish.

I just heard on a news radio channel that the driver claimed he hadn’t slept in 24 hours. If true, very unacceptable. It would need to be determined if he didn’t sleep because he chose not to or if his employer is imposing unrealistic standards.

Employers may be encouraging that behavior by bonuses or even penalties without actually stating it in writing.
Truck drivers dont seem to be as reliable as they were when I was you g. Of course traffic is worse too & competition is tight.
It seems like there has been an increase in bad accidents involving big trucks.
I know I try to avoid them when I can, they follow too close. I really hate it w hen they are three abreast on the freeway and use the slow lane to pass.
Did you see the video of the truck that almost hit a 7th grader while she was waiting for her school bus?
