Best/Worst Admission/Rejection Letters

University of Denver’s EA admit letter was the longest I’ve received so far, they even widened out the margins to make all of the information fit onto one sheet of paper.

Drexel was the most generous and to the point. They offered acceptance, honors college, masters program, and a scholarship in basically 3 paragraphs that were a series of phrases following “We’d ALSO like to offer you…”

I got three deferral letters. I felt Boston College and Notre Dame’s letters we’re pretty comforting and hopeful. Georgetown, as most have agreed, was not as hopeful and rather curt.

@elau: I made it up :D

Eagle, what about the Georgetown acceptance letter?

do you usually get the acceptance/rejection letters by mail before you receive them via email?

UNC EA came out yesterday. Nothing extraordinary in my opinion, just your typical acceptance letter:

Dear name,
It gives us great pleasure to offer you admission to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Even among the many strong students applying for admission this year, your academic and personal achievements set you apart. We believe that you have an exciting future ahead of you, and we hope that Carolina will be the next step in your journey.

Because we want you to come to Carolina ready to excel, your enrollment will depend upon your successful completion of your current academic year, as well as your successful fulfillment of any other conditions that may be outlined in your official decision letter, which we are sending to you by mail. If you are currently enrolled in spring courses, we require that you have your final end-of-year transcript sent to us as soon as it becomes available.

We will be mailing you a detailed description of the opportunities that await you, as well as a checklist of the steps you must take in order to complete your enrollment. Please review this information carefully, and please note that you will need to submit your response to our offer of admission no later than May 1, 2010, to guarantee your place in the class. You may do this by following the link at the bottom of this page or by submitting the reply form that you will receive in the mail.

Again, congratulations on your admission to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. We are delighted to welcome you to Carolina, and we wish you every success in the months ahead.

Associate Provost and Director of Undergraduate Admissions

Please print and keep a copy of this online decision. Once you indicate whether you intend to enroll, this message will no longer be available online.

@sheep.disturber: Lol nice. i think that would be the best acceptance letter :P

I found a site that has a bunch of rejection letters from 1995: http://www.i8u.org/reject.html</a></p>

They’re for medical school admissions, though.

wow that was incredibly depressing. I feel bad for that guy. and after reading all those horrific tales of 2% med school acceptance rates Im wondering how I will fare four years from now :(

^^^

If you look at that guy’s stats, it’s no wonder he got all those rejections. In fact, the fact he got all those rejections makes me wonder if that web site is serious. WHO applies to that many med schools? (Who can afford to do so?) And most are way out of his league if he was a serious candidate. I suspect that site is somewhat of a spoof.

Indiana U’s acceptance letter was pretty normal, but…if you got their top automatic scholarship (due to GPA/SAT)…they sent you a really cute red and white striped winter neck scarf with the IU logo on it, and the word “Achieve”…and the note said “You’ve earned your stripes”. Very cute. And functional.

University of Kansas sent a nice magnet KU picture frame that you can put on your refrigerator with your picture inside – (and an insert magnet that says “Rock Chalk Jayhawk”) – also came with a very nice certificate. They have their act together and do a nice job there turning around applications quickly.

Actually, that’s not quite accurate. His MCAT score of a 36 is actually quite good, and although a 3.3 is not high by med school standards, it’s not terrible either. I know people who have applied to up to 50 medical schools (and yes, it is very expensive), but based off of MSAR data and his stats, he was a competitive applicant at many of the schools he was rejected from (although it is certainly possible he interviews poorly, we can’t really know the intangibles of his application). His statistical chance at acceptance overall would theoretically have been 52.1%, if the AAMC’s data is correct. (found here: [Table 24: MCAT and GPA Grid for Applicants and Acceptees to U.S. Medical Schools, 2005-2007 (aggregated) - FACTS - AAMC](http://www.aamc.org/data/facts/applicantmatriculant/table24-mcatgpa-grid-3yrs-app-accpt.htm))

I decided to read this ENTIRE thread. Hysterical! Of course, we’ll have our own stories to share in about 30 days. Read the messages from last March…seriously funny! and SAD at the same time. But hey, you have to have a sense of humor if you are going to be rejected. Of course, if we had read this thread first, we may have changed on minds on where to apply. This thread should be mandatory reading…for those that write the rejection letters…!! It’s clear, though, that the admit letters/envelopes from state schools show a sense of humor…good for them.

I thought the Georgetown acceptance letter was rather run-of-the-mill, but their follow-up letters were definitely very personal. All admitted students have received a hand-written, specific Christmas card from the admissions office, a letter about our interests from the “president”, and a few other letters.

Juniata College sent me a cute little booklet and a bumper sticker. Then they sent me an admitted students open house card that had the corner bitten off (someone got hungry?).

I don’t know about medical schools, but it’s not unusual for people to apply to many schools for graduate admission. For example, my father applied to over 40 schools. (He actually got into Berkeley, although he chose the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign for financial reasons.)

By the way, I should make a correction to my earlier post. The letters are not just from 1995; they were collected over the 1990s.

When I got into University of the Arts London (I’m from California) I basically got a handshake and a “congratulations” from my interviewer. I didn’t even get an email from the school for a month… kind of freaked me out and made me think that I wasn’t officially in.

Then they sent me a link to a little spot that said “Accepted.” A three-inch-wide blue box. Uh, thanks guys.

I wouldn’t mind a t-shirt or a sticker or even a fancy envelope. I’m still awfully excited though.

Just average acceptance letters. No rejections because I undershot my applications.

But in terms of UF. It was just like, "Oh super yay…welcome to Gator Nation  " then an electronic signature formally welcomed me to The Institution. For that it is…through and through. Not sure if I will attend, but very excited to be accepted.

DePauw’s acceptance letter was more of a rejection one. They said they had deactivated my file because they did not think I was going to attend because of the amount of aid they were giving me.

I just got my Cornell acceptance letter today.
it was a skinny envelope. i could feel through the envelope that there was only one sheet of paper. i wasn’t sure if it was a rejection or another piece of college-spam, especially since i was not expecting to hear back from them until April 1st/standard decision date. the date on the letter was march 3, 2010.
i’m still a little scared it might be a fluke or something - like how cornell accidentally sent out acceptance letters to rejected applicants several years ago…

:) but anyway. the letter was to the point.
Dear —; Congratulations! The admissions selection committee in the School of Industrial and Labor Relations has approved your application to Cornell University for the fall of 2010. I am delighted to share this wonderful news with you and to welcome you to the Cornell community.

below that, it talks about cornell + how the case for cornell packet will come in early april. it also talks about how important it is to continue upholding high academic standards (basically, “no senioritis”). still…mine was personally signed in blue ink, which makes me happy
best of luck to everyone!!!

My college of new jersey acceptance letter was boring compared to all of these schools you guys are talking about. I was just excited that I got a magnet and bumper sticker lol . The folder was kinda pretty too.

And the Rutgers one was okk the certificate included was kinda cheesy xD. It reminded me of one of those certificate of participation things.
