Best/Worst Admission/Rejection Letters

Wow. Above 3 posts show adcoms make silly decisions too.

Day by day, it’s getting harder and harder to wait…

Yeah same, it was absolutely atrocious.

I only got that and Boston College’s. I liked Boston’s a lot better, it was a nice white folder with a red inside, had a card, 2 letters, a pamphlet, and because I got into the honors program another booklet.

New College of Fl . . .box with a folder of info that says “Congratulations - You’re in!” along with a tee shirt, a CD of student music and confetti. Great fun. Letter warmly written and info about “your new home.”

^^Same here. Except Loyola Chicago sent me a text message. Really guys? I didn’t even get a letter! Guess where I’m NOT going to college?

I got a letter from Washington and Lee, dated January 8, telling me the deadline is January 2. The letter arrived on January 20.

Text message? I’ve never heard of decisions coming via text message.

Indiana sends a scarf; I thought that was pretty sweet. South Carolina and Wisconsin both have envelopes with “YES!” on the outside – as someone questioned earlier in this thread, I have to wonder if they put “NO!!” on rejections. Still waiting on rejections – I hope the ones I get are at least creative/comforting.

The Columbia rejection itself was pretty nice. I applied ED and they basically said “We had 1000 more applicants this year than last for ED, you are a very bright and talented student but we cannot offer you a place in Columbia’s Class of 2015 due to our significant application increase. Many of those students rejected from Columbia go on to do great things at other institutions.”
UChicago’s deferral was colder. It was just like “we can’t offer you a place now but we want to review your application in the spring.”
I’ve gotten into UVM and SUNY Albany so far. UVM’s was pretty nice, I got into the Honors College and they sent a booklet…no tshirts, glitter, or singing though. Albany was just a tiny envelope with two papers inside, one was the acceptance letter and the other was the deposit slip.

I love this!

I’d say this is a very nice acceptance letter, very happy to get it :D.

Smith’s online letter was kind and brief. Which I appreciate, I don’t like sentimental crap about the ~college experience~. It was online, and had a nice picture of the admissions staff holding a flag thing that said CONGRATULATIONS SMITH COLLEGE 2015. Wonder what rejected applicants received.

"December 15, 2010

I am very pleased to tell you that you have been admitted to Smith College. Congratulations on your impressive accomplishments and your promise for future achievement.

Your letter of admission and, if applicable (very, very applicable), your financial aid award were mailed today. Please call us if you have not received this information by December 20. We look forward to welcoming you to Smith. Once again, our congratulations!

Best wishes,

ok…the meanest one has to be wellesley.it was CRUEL.It went like this
stuff stuff
please dont apply for regular decision cuz there are gonna be better applicants than you.
it was written in an ornate language but the meaning was that…imagine getting such a rejection letter.

I was accepted to U San Diego in January, despite applying regular decision. I guess they just wanted me so bad they couldn’t wait until April (haha, I kid, I kid).

I thought Marquette did a nice job. First the sent a cap and a few weeks later the admission package.

I liked the ones I got for Hofstra and Pace University. It came in a big envelope with the words “The Answer Is Yes” and Congratulations! on it! Sure it kills the surprise but I liked it  Ohio U’s was pretty simple. Just an envelope with a letter saying I was accepted :)

I’d have to say Yale’s rejection letter was the worst. I NEVER GOT IT! Haha… there was an online letter for the rejection but then I clicked a box that asked if I wanted a mailed copy. Never got it >_>

XaverKnights06 comment - hahaha! love the creativity! :)

IUB’s acceptance was, comparably, quite extravagant: I received, after admission to the Honors College, a crimson-and-red scarf with “IU Achieve” embossed on the end. (The general admissions letter was also quite uplifting - it came in a “large” envelope with something like “You’re in!” on the front - which was nice after two deferrals…) Go Hoosiers!

I applied to Tulane and Emory and all I got were these silly acceptance letters. I want a scarf too! :P

eh, i didn’t think it was that cold? i mean, it seemed standard. (i applied EA too lol) but we were in totally diff situations: you had been rejected ED and i was well accepted. i’m sure you’ll go somewhere great

now cornell’s acceptance letter was so boring. honestly it seemed like they spent 5 minutes designing it. well, i guess they didn’t need to be extravagant because everyone who received it would be attending. the t-shirt was nice though =]

EDIT

loool. i totally forgot i posted this. loool. seemed forever ago. barely remembering typing that. at any rate, even if the letter was very professional i was still as happy as can be. after all, who reads past the first few words? =]

Dear [my name]:

Congratulations on your acceptance into the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell University! We are very pleased to be welcoming you to the Cornell Class of 2015.

Very soon, you will receive your official letter of acceptance from us in the mail.

In the meantime, we want you to know that we are excited at the prospect of your joining the Cornell community and know that you will make a very positive contribution to the university as a future Cornellian.

Best regards,

This just in, when you open Clarkson’s acceptance folder, it plays music and then shouts “WELCOME TO CLARKSON!”

I had no interest in the school, but thanks to the little sound byte, I’m going.
