Thank you for your interest in the University of Chicago. The Admissions Committee has reviewed your application, and while we are unable to offer you a place in the class at this time, we would like to review your file again in the spring.

The Committee will reconsider your application and any new information you send in the Regular Notification pool. Please arrange for your mid-year report and an updated transcript to be sent to our office as soon as they are available.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at collegeadmissions@uchicago.edu or by telephone at 773.702.8650. We hope that the University of Chicago remains high on your list and wish you the best as you continue your college search.

Sincerely,

here’s the UChicago deferral letter. it is very formal, looking back. yeah, not that heart warming i guess

I also assume that Stanford has worst letter of rejection. I’v been reading my letter of rejection from stanford. I cannot figure out why Stanford is such inhumane. Perhaps, Stanford tries to give every rejective person setback, then she or he, learning from the setback, would be more brave and perseverant. Above is just my viewpoint. I am looking forward to get official explaination from Stanford.

As you know, admission to Gettysburg College is highly competitive. From the large number of applications submitted, only a limited group of students can be admitted. Each year, the number of qualified applicants far exceeds the number of students in the first-year class.

After a careful review of your application, we regret the inability to offer you admission to Gettysburg for the term beginning in September 2011. This decision should not be interpreted as an evaluation of your ability to do college work. Instead it is a decision made necessary by the enrollment circumstances at Gettysburg College.

We deeply appreciate the interest you have shown in Gettysburg, and we wish you the best of success in your college career.

Sincerely,

I hate them!!! They didn’t even tell me what was the reason behind rejection. They can’t just say, we had huge number of applicants, so we rejected you…

MIT’s deferment website (yeah they send you to your own special web-page designed to defer you) was really rather nice. Sad-ish, sure, but quite nice.

USC’s acceptance package was nice I suppose. Folder, certificate, and so on. No shirt :(.

I really liked the USC acceptance; it came super early, too, so I was surprised! It says “Welcome to the Trojan Family” on the outside of the folder and a bunch of information! It’s my first acceptance, and I’m going crazy waiting to hear from my other schools.

All my other acceptances before just sent simple letters, except USC, so I was super happy. And I know what you mean wadawada, waiting to hear is such a crazy experience D:

(Side note: Feels like USC’s letter is like Congrats…and now let us brag about our school - a lot)

Eastern Michigan University: They sent me an average info packet about the school, like what you would expect if they were trying to get you to apply. So, I didn’t look into it, and it turned out to have a acceptance letter in it. But I didn’t find out until about a week later when they sent me scholarship info! lol

University of Pittsburgh: Envelope read congratulations on it. It made me so happy!

University of Mount Union: Just a standard envelope. I thought that I forgot to send them something, but it turned out to be a letter of acceptance and a $8,000 scholarship! I was pleasantly surprised!

Just found this! My ED package from WashU was fantastic. First of all, it was a legitimate package sent first class, which made me feel really special then inside it had a binder with the seal on it and inside another acceptance letter (I had previously found out about my acceptance online). They also sent out a t-shirt when they received my enrollment form, and later on I got a handwritten holiday card from an adcom who read my app and shared my name, which made me smile. Pretty much everything they did convinced me I totally picked the right school, if this is how they treat their admits months before they even get on campus!!!

The worst rejection letter I ever received was from the University of Dayton. On the standard rejection letter they sent me, someone at the admissions office there hand wrote in pen in letters so large they could not fail to make it clear why I was rejected, “Extremely poor high school record!” This was many years ago and I don’t know if it was their policy then to personalize each rejection letter with a gratuitious hand written insult or my high school record was so really so bad that someone there just couldn’t help but comment on it.

I eventually did straighten out, went to college, made the Dean’s List, was accepted into medical school and I am now a practicing physician.

Hey Lemaitre1, you should photocopy your rejection letter and your med school diploma (and board certification too!) and send them to U Dayton admissions! ;)
