I got rejected from Smith today. The message was fairly standard. The kicker? They’re sending a copy to me in the mail and I get to be rejected a second time.

The honors program/scholarship letter from Colorado state was the best… rainbow star confetti :3

Vlklngboy11, I was deferred from Case Western. I’ll let you know what the rejection letter looks like in a month or so lol.

Pretty cute:

@Ohio that is awesome I wish they would still send envelopes before email i mean sure it takes longer but it’s a bit more exciting

So far all of my S’ have come by mail. I took pics of the last two also:

This one’s “you got in” is in a window in the envelope:

This is a tube with rubber stoppers on the ends. I was hoping there’d be a t-shirt :)

Florida State has a great acceptance program - online shows fireworks, and they send a gorgeous acceptance letter on parchment paper suitable for framing. Also really liked the University of South Carolina, they sent a big “Yes!” on the outside of the envelope with a Gamecock. Others have been nice letters, but those two stand out.

USC’s is pretty standard, but I love the first part of the acceptance letter:

Dear _____,

Congratulations! I am pleased to offer you admission to the University of Southern California as part of the entering class of fall 2012. This offer is being extended to you as a result of your outstanding achievements, both in and out of the classroom – for all the late nights and weekends you devoted to study, and the times you went beyond what was expected of you.

I’ve applied to 20 schools, to cast a wider net since I’m an intl. I so hope to get at least one acceptance package from someone.

Also, I got deferred at Harvard, but I didn’t get a letter. Is that the norm?

I saw an NC State acceptance letter a friend of mine got. It was a gigantic red envelope and it said CONGRATULATIONS on the front. Apparently NC State isn’t big on the whole “suspense” thing.

My Lenoir-Rhyne letter came with a car sticker. That’s the only “gift” I’ve received, not counting the scholarship. I was hoping for some free t-shirts.

The only cool thing Greensboro’s acceptance packet came with was my scholarship offer. It came on some pretty nice stationary though.

Guilford College was pretty reassuring in their deferral letter, although since it was the first college news I received it was rather distressing and I threw it away right afterwards.

Appalachian State must use a machine to fold their info packet. It came in a regular sized envelope, and my first thought was that I was wailisted or rejected. Then I open it, and my acceptance letter is there along with a large cardstock information booklet folded rather tightly.

So I get an e-postcard from an alumna from Smith.

I open it up.

This woman introduces herself as a Latina representative from the college or something like that.

And then she says, “Congratulations on your acceptance!”

And I’m like, what.

What?

So I’m super psyched, and I’m like, I guess this is just how they do it.

Then eight hours later, I get an email stating that it was a mix-up, and she had recieved the names of all Latina students who had applied, while she thought she had the names of all the Latina students who got in.

So I won’t know until late March.

It’s not acceptance/rejection, but it still made me cry.

^^^ shades of Vassar :(

Cornell University

Dear ______:

Congratulations! The admissions selection committee in the College of Engineering has approved your early decision application to Cornell University for the fall of 2012. I am delighted to share this wonderful news with you and to welcome you to the Cornell community.

Cornell’s admission selection process was especially competitive this year given the academic strength and outstanding personal qualities of the students who applied for primary and alternate choice admission. Thus we are particularly pleased to extend this offer of admission to you.

As you celebrate your admission to Cornell, I want you to also reflect upon and consider the words and wisdom of founder Ezra Cornell: “I would found an institution where any person can find instruction in any study.” Cornell University is a living and learning community committed to fostering personal discovery and growth, nurturing scholarship and creativity, and engaging and enriching the human spirit of women and men from around the world. I look forward to having you join the students and faculty here who, together, contribute to the tradition of excellence, intellectual ingenuity , and diversity that has always distinguished Cornell University.

We will reserve a place in the class for you when we receive your completed response coupon and enrollment deposit. Please note that by accepting our offer of admission, you are acknowledging that you will adhere to Cornell University’s Code of Academic Integrity. Our offer of admission is also contingent upon your satisfactorily completing any school work now in progress, and on your continuing to uphold high standards of character in activities outside the classroom.

I also am pleased to let you know that you will be invited to join s for Cornell Days, a program in mid-April designed specifically for students who have been admitted to Cornell. Additional information about this program will be mailed to you in the spring.

Congratulations again on your admission to Cornell University. I trust that your Cornell experience will be academically rewarding and personally enriching.

With best regards,

Associate Vice Provost for Enrollment

And then after failed discussions with the financial aid office…

Dear ___,

Thank you for your message. We will release you from your early decision commitment to attend Cornell University. You should receive a confirmation letter from me next week by post.

I am sorry that we were not able to resolve the financial aid matter.

Sincerely,

Cornell University

Stanford sent a nice letter, but the coolest part was the half page long hand written personalized note attached that basically said what they liked.

Swarthmore rejection was pretty plain and cold.

U of Miami came with I think 6 coupons to various places on campus, a car sticker, and an award certificate for my scholarship. Also came with a folder/booklet that I haven’t looked through yet. Most likely stuff about academics, student life, etc.

butler university’s envelope was sealed with wax (i was pretty impressed!) and came with a folder with the letter and a car sticker along with enrollment stuff. pretty nice.

Rose-Hulman’s acceptance came in a small envelope. Nothing really special.

Harvard’s deferral letter said the exact same thing that was said in the deferral e-mail.

UC Irvine had a little graphic on their applicant portal with little fireworks shooting off the words.

USC (Southern Cal) had an amazing acceptance package, as other posters have already described. I was so impressed by how much the school put into making their acceptance folder so informative and aesthetically pleasing.

My D’s acceptance letter was very personal. It reads in part: “It is clear that whether you are mastering the newest [refers to her major EC], discussing ______ with your _____ club, volunteering at ________, or making the financial commitment to [refers to a monthly donation she’s made since 9th grade], you bring a commitment to the task at hand which is appreciated by your teachers and others who work with you.” It made her feel like they’d taken the time to get to know her beyond the numbers.

Is there such a thing as a “fat rejection”? That would be incredibly cruel and I’m guessing schools wouldn’t want to waste the money :)
