Best/Worst Admission/Rejection Letters

There’s no such thing as a fat rejection because there’s nothing to say but “Sorry, you’re a great student, but we were not able to offer you admission.”

My D has been rejected at two colleges that have invited her to reapply as a transfer student next year. Is this a ploy to generate more fees or did they did misinterprect her grades. Her HS does not have a weighted GPA and it does not rank its students. The HS is very highly thought of and is ranked as one of the top three in MA. Anyone receive rejection letters like these?

Yeah, the one SUNY that rejected my D (and not a selective one at that), sent her a rejection that said if she went to college in the fall to reapply and send those grades. It was a misunderstanding of D’s record - they kept on asking for stuff they already had or wasn’t applicable. I guess if they are iffy about grades, they ask the student to prove some success at college.

Pitt emailed me about 2 days before I got in about how they liked my essay and wanted to know more about a creative contest I won. That was nice :3. They also mailed my teachers that submitted letters of reference, a cool folder with fancy papers inside, and a magnet that says PITT IS IT. They also mailed me separately specific info about religious orgs and extra-currics I might like  (they even got them right!)

UMD sent a magnet with a “accepted for Spring but waitlisted for Fall” decision.

SUNY sent… a pretty brochure for Albany and an online letter for Stony Brook (both yes).

The one I can’t wait for, though, is Macaulay and the orange tee :D

Smith College:

I was among the few (a “select group”, their words) to be admitted early for regular decision.

The dean of admissions wrote a hand-written blurb on every letter! It pertained to something on our application.

SUNY Buffalo: Nice letter and brochure. Nothing more

Pretty pleased with UChicago and USC’s acceptance packages. They were both pretty thick and nice looking. UChicago sent a lot of cool stuff to follow up, including books, a personal postcard, a calendar, and a scarf. I thought USC’s acceptance package went a little overboard with the red and yellow. Obviously, those are the school colors, but it just didn’t look too good.

UChicago: http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/6954/img1199j.jpg</a>
USC: http://img813.imageshack.us/img813/1153/img1201j.jpg</a></p>

The Trinity University and Southern Methodist University acceptance packages are very well done. Both were personal, handsome and contained good information. These packages make a strong first impression, especially contrasted to what the big state schools send (at least the Texas state schools).

The St. Bonaventure University acceptance package was really nice:the standard “Congratulations” letters, merit award letter, an invitation to a scholars dinner and a St. Bonaventure Class of 2016 t-shirt!

I really liked the T-shirt, I mean c’mon its free swag!

Anybody here ftom Parsons?

Hmm, I got a tube and a Valentine with ALL ADMISSION OFFICERS’ SIGNATURES from MIT.
Someone else probably mentioned it though :)

Kalamazoo sent me a very nice letter that was personalized with quotes from my recommendation letters. The scholarship also helped :)

St Marys acceptance is cute. They write something from your essay also!!

Brown’s ED acceptance notification was pretty awesome. I think the fact that I had to click on it around five times made it all the more nerve-wracking and exciting before reading “Congratulations!” on the screen.

They sent the same letter in the mail within the next two days in a very intricate brown folder (they’re so clever) that included a car sticker, a bunch of papers, and another letter of congratulations.

Ruth (the president) also sent a letter of her own congratulating us on her behalf, and the school periodically sends more exciting, positive letters to keep us impatient about attending. haha.

Anorexic thin envelope from U Oregon, but it was an acceptance. Guess all I need is online. So glad to have that as first acceptance.

All Penn State sent was a paragraph letter saying I’ve been admitted and a postcard to fill out if you want to enroll/send in deposit. Pretty lame.

Bennington sent me a cookie about two weeks after I got accepted. It was a delicious cookie and totally made my day.

Clark was online, but when I opened the decision link, this youtube video of a whole bunch of students shouting “You got in!” popped up, which definitely wins creativity brownie points.

SUNY Geneseo sent me a shirt and a handwritten letter after I TOURED… So we’ll have to see what their acceptance/waitlist/rejection letter looks like when I get it this weekend!

Sent from my GT-P7510 using CC

Rutgers sent me a standard package - leaflet, letter, pretty magnet. It was a nice touch - the R on the leaflet was not just an embossed R, but a magnet the size of your palm. :)

UT Austin - haven’t received the package yet? Just got the decision last week ish.

Ithaca College - Fedexed a package full of the standard leaflets and a personalized letter. It was so nice of them! :)

Oh, I got deferred from Duke. I was pretty crushed when I saw the word ‘deferred’ in the first line of the letter, but the letter itself was very comforting and well-written so I’m nowhere near bitter. Very grateful to have gotten this far.

George Washington sent this beautiful embossed folder in a big ol’ envelope about a week after EDII notifications were posted online. If I hadn’t already seen my acceptance online, I would have flipped out even more over the folder.
