BFA Acting Admission Class of 2030 Forum

Same for mine. Apparently it does move quite a bit and some years more than others, but not until after May 1.

My DD was accepted to USC for the BA in Dramatic Arts and waitlisted for NYU Tisch last night. Now just need to hear from Penn State & Boston University.

Congrats!

I emailed U of MN about acting bfa decisions and still haven’t heard back

Does anyone know if people get actual merit based aid from NYU? I’ve heard of Tisch scholarship. Does anyone know if people who do not have the need qualify for these types of scholarships?

Good chance there will be folks rolling off the waitlist and getting offers from UMN starting this week and likely continuing one or two spots at a time right up to May 1. Folks who got first offers tend to visit during the sophomore Shakespeare plays that just wrapped up yesterday and then start making some decisions depending on where else they have to visit. UMN is very particular about creating its cohort, so they don’t just throw out a bunch of offers and see what sticks.

My S is also a transfer from Community College in California. He is completing an AA in Arts and Hummanities with an emphasis on Dramatic Art (Acting).

Waiting

For Penn as well

Still trying to compare Ithaca. Point park Syracuse and Rutgers All for acting. So far DD is thinking of

1 Rutgers

2, Pp

3. Ithaca

4 Syracuse

( waiting on pace MT)

Rutgers has the best abroad 3rd year, prioritizing acting instead of competing with the musical theater because there is no MT not as much dance as we would like, but proximity to the city means dance classes are available on the weekends

PointbPark because without a doubt, hands-down, most performance opportunities and great facilities most affordable super communication with faculty/ admissions So personal

Ithaca because of strong dance program and pretty area.. not excited about the weather and it’s nowhere near a big city, which could be a plus. But nothing to do if the weather is bad. $$$

Syracuse basically only because of reputation, but we weren’t impressed with the facilities. We’ve heard some weird rumors. If they are true we won’t be going there. But we do like the fact that acting a musical theater are very blended. Dorms are far from the theater department, but equity stage is a plus. $$$$

Anybody else have any ideas to help sway us?

If anything off campus is part of making the decision, I would make sure to check with current students about time and ability to consistently leave campus every week. Rutgers is about an hour on the train to nyc and it may be difficult to find 4-6 hours every week to leave campus. The schedule is very very tight.

I don’t think Point park has any real connections to the industry. Its just a really fancy school from what i’ve heard.

any thoughts on montclair?

Any thoughts on Rutgers vs NYU Tisch?

Former NYC actor here. No question Tisch has the superior program. It’s in the city and I had amazing well-known working industry professional teachers when I was there. Many of my classmates have gone on to great success. I worked professionally for 15 years (mostly regional, tours, and off-Bway, though I did 2 Bway shows - I had no interest in film. I was a MT gal). Rutgers is fine but not at all in the same league.

Syracuse was fantastic in my day. Having Syracuse Stage right there is huge and their network is strong. They also have Lubin House here in the city and did a fantastic showcase for graduating seniors.

Good luck to all of you!!!

NYU accepts over 200 students and divides them into a bunch of different studios so the quality of the training varies depending on which studio you’re in. They also don’t have an industry showcase (something to consider). Being in the city is definitely a HUGE plus but purely in terms of acting training, I think Rutgers is superior.

I think their training is pretty solid, although it seems like there is a heavier focus in resources on MT versus Acting. However, my kid removed them from consideration out of sheer frustration on communication. He was trying to balance a dozen scheduled Unified auditions. They absolutely would not respond to calls or emails about audition time scheduling or campus visits. It just didn’t bode well for us.
