BFA Acting Admission Class of 2030 Forum

Going crazy with pressure on decisions! BFA acting (prefer film/tv over stage). Narrowed down choices to SUNY-Purchase, Boston U, Ithaca and CalArts. I would love any feedback or thoughts!!

We were just at Boston U for accepted students day on Friday. Their training definitely seems to tend more towards stage than screen. I think there’s 1-2 classes that focus on acting for the screen.

Thanks, and yes, they are more stage oriented but received some positive guidance from the department for film work.

From what I know, CalArts is definitely the most screen style acting you’ll get out of those options. Also with the location, there would be better on-screen opportunities out there.

The foundation for screen and stage acting is the same. I don’t think you should be looking for a school that prioritizes one over the other. Instead, look for the school that offers the strongest overall acting training. From your list, SUNY Purchase and Boston University should be the top choices.

I agree with others, CalArts would be best for film out of those options. My S is definitely more of a film actor but is looking forward to his first ever theatre performance later this month.

We were really attracted to Missouri State initially because my S is a varsity football player and wanted somewhere that offered both D1 football and BFA acting. We discovered that they have a professional equity theatre on campus plus an excellent 18 unit, stand alone Acting for Film and TV certificate which my S is encorporating into his BFA. They also run two industry show cases in NY and LA.

Hear of any of these wait lists moving please let me know.

Elon, point park, Penn State, Purchase, Ithaca, Syracuse.

acting BFA.

I did hear at least three spots for point Park from the high priority waitlist have been offered in acting. And someone said musical theater too.

Point Park was pulling off their high priority waitlist. Elon acting commitment was due 4/15 so there should be some movement. Not sure on the others.

Wish there was one common area that everybody dropped into who was looking to find out about decisions and waitlist and stuff cause there’s so many threads for all different years. It’s hard to find any information and I can’t be the only one who’s wondering.

Still haven’t heard anything from UMN Twin Cities, not even a waitlist notif. Should I contact them again? Last time I got no response. I’m just getting worried since it’s getting close to May 1st.

I would. If you’re holding off contacting them because you’re afraid that it might be perceived as being annoying or something don’t because at this stage of the game, people are trying to figure out scholarship and financial offers. It’s getting really close to the deadline to call because you need to know where you stand so that you can make a decision is a reasonable request

April 28.

4 days until deadline.

I wonder if the waitlist will move now, it seems like in previous years. There was a lot of movement on the 30th and 31st. I would love to get off of the waitlist before having to deposit money at a school. We’re not quite as sure of.

Just curious - Do you have any offers from other schools that excite you or not really?

Just got accepted to the UMN Acting BFA!

What did you end up choosing? I’m also between CalArts and SCAD (I know May1 passed but I got an extension)

I got offered a spot from waitlist at UNCSA, which was my dream school! Before that happened, I ruled out CalArts because of the travel costs. I have a friend at SCAD who absolutely loves it there. Good luck with your decision!
