BFA Acting Class of 2023: preparation, prescreens, auditions, questions and support

Good for her @grapesofwrathdad! Sometimes that is just the right choice.

I’ve been a silent observer for the past week - I wish I found this board 6 months ago! What a stressful journey this has been. Top 3 schools for my daughter were Syracuse, Pace and NYU. She was wait listed at SU, alternate at Pace and accepted at NYU. I’m still in shock. Congrats to all and their future schools! All you parents rock! These kids couldn’t have done this without your support!

Congrats @xavierdog and welcome!

Wonderful news @xavierdog ! Congrats!

@actorparent1 my D’s story last year!

Is anyone combining the Pace overnight with Weekend on the Square for NYU? We will already be there and am very happy we don’t have to travel to NYC two weekends in a row!

@Gapyearguru As of right now, we’re planning on doing NYU’s Weekend on the Square 4/13-4/14 and then arranging to do an overnight at Pace 4/15, 4/16, or 4/17. Also, trying to visit LIU Post and SUNY Purchase the other two days.

It’s a no for NYU for my S. Not surprised as it was his first audition and he didn’t feel good about it when he came out. No connection was made. Congrats to all those on the WL and the acceptances!

Did the BU notices go out already?

An academically gifted student at my D’s public school posted a long list of her acceptances, including some ivy leagues, on Instagram last night. My daughter is frustrated because she is also proud of her academic AND artistic acceptance offers but believes that is bad form to post in that way on such a broad platform. It is a little bit about the bragging thing, but more about the main audience on that platform being public school students who don’t have the same options. Any opinions out there?

D released Emerson and Marymount today…hoping to help others on the waitlist!

@Atreuh Yes the BU decisions were out Saturday morning March 23rd.

@Gapyearguru My D released some schools on Sunday. We tried to convince her to shut her eyes and say a quiet thank you in her heart as she hit the button. Now five days later we can’t find our Marie Kondo Tidying Up book…

@grapesofwrathdad such a great perspective, and welcome to the board. We are so glad the gag order has been lifted!

Inspired by those of you taking the leap and letting go of some of their acceptances, we will try to do the same this weekend, starting with releasing the programs that we just feel are too expensive even after scholarships, for us. We are trying to be reasonable about not joining in on that heavy student loan situation. Having said that, I wonder if any of you have experience with children and could comment on plusses and minuses for Hartt, Ithaca and Otterbein BFA Acting. They all seem like strong programs with nice people. Would you be willing to share your information or thoughts? I have read some thoughts online but maybe some of you have some experience there.

@MomMimi We don’t know if she borrowed the book or burned it! All kidding aside, it is very emotional to release these EA schools that were both safeties and ego-lifesavers during the darker weeks of this process.

I haven’t posted much. I took a deep dive into CC last year at this time and then needed to get away because I was addicted and it also made me a little nervous. I came back and started lurking after unifieds. My S was lucky enough to learn right away (2/12) ,via phone call, that he was admitted to Michigan. We are going to visit it soon and then he will make his final decision. He released a few of the schools he was accepted to, but wants to wait for the others until he knows for sure that Michigan is the place for him! He also really loves Rutgers, so it’s a tough decision. Congrats to everyone for being (almost) done with this!

@theater7 That nervous feeling, for sure! We watch our kids getting cast, getting leads and of course as parent-pilots we think our kids are super talented. But then that nagging feeling until the first acceptance comes in that perhaps you’ve been biased…

@BelleHankmom , my daughter goes to Hartt and loves it. I wrote about it in detail earlier in this thread - here’s the link: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/theater-drama-majors/2074493-bfa-acting-class-of-2023-preparation-prescreens-auditions-questions-and-support-p111.html. ( you may have to scroll down that page to see it.) Feel free to p.m. me with any questions!

@theater7, congratulations on two amazing acceptances! A very tough choice indeed! Make sure to post in the final decisions thread once you decide!
