can u double if you’re getting a BFA in theater??? (sounds crazy, i know) i want to obtain my BFA in theater and my BA in PR/advertisment… is this possible??? i’m a transfer, finished up all 60 GE unites already.

You need to look at the specific requirements for both programs, and see whether they can be fit together into only two years of classes. Usually a BFA has so many specific requirements that there isn’t time to complete a BA in an unrelated field. Most students who want double majors choose to complete a BA in theater (if available) instead of a BFA because the requirements usually are not as restrictive.

well, i know with obtaining a BFA, 3 years is average, especially as a transfer…

Most theatre/acting BFA’s have very specific 4 year sequence. And in a lot of cases, (if not most), transfers coming in start as freshmen. You have to remember with a BFA there are a lot less GE requirements and more program/major specific requirements.

With all of your General Ed requirements out of the way, it is possible to finish a BFA and a second major in four years. In some cases, you might be able to get out in three. But as others have said… the key is the sequence of classes, not in raw credit hours. You can’t take Acting I and II during the same semester. You didn’t ask for advice, but if you really want to double major and get out in a shorter time, I would look at a strong B.A. program (there are many) and take as many classes as you can while you are there. That way the sequence isn’t as regimented.

Good luck.

kjgc, i do appreciate your advice. i only ask of this becuase i’m interested in Chapman University as they have a strong PR program and a pretty good BFA acting for film program.

In that case you should start a new thread and ask for specific info about Chapman.

if i were you, i’d just call Chapman myself…the two departments themselves and ask them. that’ll be the only clear answer that you will get.
