The interviewer’s questions and tone obviously indicated that he assumed that an Obama supporter who was a black male (a dark skinned one wearing a baseball hat at that) was voting the race card. Check out the video to listen to the young man’s fact-filled delineation of why he supports Obama.

Since CC doesn’t allow links to blogs, to see the video, plug “Obama” “wrong supporter” and “think on these things” (the blogs’ name) into Google. Ten, scroll down to “Interviewer picks the wrong Obama supporter to try to railroad.”

Thank you! That was great. It was clear from his questions that the interviewer had not done his research. I have been increasingly dismayed at the falling standards in the newsmedia. Forget the reporters, even the so-called experts are lacking in basic knowledge and smartness.

Thanks, NSmom. That was great. Talk about flying in the face of preconceived notions. Derrick obviously knows his stuff. If only a third of the electorate was as well informed.

vicariousparent, I agree on the falling standards of the news media. I’m always yelling at my radio, TV, or newspaper. The basic facts seem to be more and more inconvenient, never mind the truth.

Oh, and where the heck is that interviewer getting BC/BS health insurance for $169 a month?

I think even those who are well informed- would not be able to be half as articulate as Derrick. even if he got some of this points a little off as some of the responders to the post mentioned, he knows alot more about politics and platforms than most people who will be the “deciders” ;)

What a class act he is. I could never have held my own in such a situation. He more than held his position; he articulated it in detail without getting defensive despite the mild baiting. His willingness to see both sides of an issue while not ceding the crux of it – and while remaining friendly (notice the high five at the end) – reminded me of what Obama brings to the table.

The quote from Gandhi, “you must become the change you wish to see” applies to this young man. And what a smile!

I was very impressed by Derrick’s ability to remain calm and friendly, and even to establish rapport with the ignorant interviewer. The patronizing tone was evident in the very first sentence, and got worse as the interview progresed. It was very entertaining to observe the dawning realization that Derrick was actually an informed and articulate young man - clearly better informed than the interviewer was!

How do you know he thought Derrick was voting the race card? He could have just as easily thought derrick was uninformed because he was young. Jerk either way, but Derrick did a great job fielding his questions.

I actually thought he might have just assumed that the guy was a naive pie-in-the-sky liberal. He seemed to be angling his questions from a conservative or libertarian perspective, with numerous references to the word “socialized.”

Too many people get their ‘education’ from propaganda radio and propaganda TV. Reporters are no exception.

One thing that I wonder about this video is- is it genuine footage or something staged by someone to have fun on youtube? The source was not attributed on the site I saw. If it is for real, it would be a great video for the Obama campaign to distribute. Totally destroys the stereotype of the Obama supporters.

It is telling that the most avid Obama supporters are highly educated and affluent. Not exactly the gullible crowd.

Pleasurable anecdote:
While I was at a fast food restaurant quite recently, a group of young people came in behind me and began talking excitedly while waiting for their order. They were especially articulate & informed, but what thrilled me the most was the level of their non-stop interest in the race, the personalities, the issues. They looked to be between 18 and 21.

I have not seen this level of political enthusiasm & political literacy in young people since perhaps I was a child. They had specific reasons for supporting Obama, and yes, they were all black, but interestingly, their first choice had been Edwards, not Obama. They were clearly not interested in HC.
