Big News From Harry and Meghan - Royal Family Stepping Back

It’s not a great statue but it’s just a public display of their respect, there are better ways to honor their mother’s legacy. In all fairness, both of them are already doing humanitarian work like she did.

Yes, it keeps them relevant and earn their upkeep but it helps needy nonetheless. Monarchs are more or less mascots or lucratively paid faces of the brand now, no matter if they are working for countries, corporations, media or charities.

I think statues are a very dated form of honouring people, and have lost all relevance after TV and internet has now made people feel they know even celebrities intimately.

They never used to be about likeness, or about works of art but were symbols - larger than life guy in armour or uniform on a horse, instantly recognisabie as a king or general - how would people have known whether the guy really looked like their king or not, if they only knew portraits or, at best, a stiff photograph?

Or larger than life guy with big beard and floating coat next to larger than life guy with neat beard and floating coat and you had Marx and Lenin. Good enough.

A woman who was so recently alive, and you want it all - symbol and art and likeness, and what it’s meant to be symbolising is vivacity and charm and compassion? Yeah, good look trying to do all that with a statue.

People commemorate their deceased loved ones in different ways. Some do elaborate tombstones, some do memorial gifts to charity or a foundation. If this family wanted to commission a statue, that is their business. They have shared it with the public on the grounds of their home. As long as it pleases them, our opinions do not really matter.

Have I got news for you - NONE of the opinions we share in this thread matter. None. And the people we gossip about here don’t give a flying TOS violation about our opinions.

Trust me, if I thought my opinion mattered I wouldn’t share them on a gossip thread on the internet.

The Oprah interview with Harry and Meghan got nominated for an Emmy today. Go figure.

So did Phylicia Rashad. So nothing the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences does surprises me anymore.

Really? It’s interesting to see how Meghan, Oprah and many others have benefitted from Harry’s royal status and mental health issues. It probably not even be their intention but it worked really nicely at their advantage in generating more money and reaching even more eyeballs.

Well, now the privacy seeking Harry is writing a book that will come out next year. I wish that those two would just go away!!

I actually can’t wait to read it. I love watching the royals from afar, all of them.

I like watching too- the weddings, the clothes, the babies, the funerals, the traditions. But, Harry is just getting tedious. I’m guessing the book will be more of the same- how racist, non supportive, archaic, suppressive his family is. But I hope I’m wrong.

He says he wants privacy and to be his own man so maybe it’s time to drop Prince and Duke of Sussex altogether and be good ol’ Harry and stop capitalizing on his family connections. I still wish him the best (and his family) though and hope he figures things out.

It may be that “The Firm” is racist, non supportive, archiac and suppressive.

Celebrities always want their privacy, but I don’t see anybody bashing them for writing a tell all.

He had an unusual and probably somewhat traumatic childhood. Give the guy a break.

And he’s already spoken his peace about all that, on Oprah and after that as well. He just might want to give it a minute if he wants to maintain relationships with his family, for his own sake, as well as for the sake of his children. He is still a young man. He has plenty of time to write his memoir. It might be more interesting after he’s had more years of marriage and parenthood, negotiating family relationships, under his belt. And more time for reflection on his own role in all this.

No you don’t; it’s much more fun to complain about them .

As in everything with royalty and other celebrities, appearances can be deceiving. BH is engaged in a major PR effort.

Who is BH?

Bucks House (what the royals allegedly call Buckingham Palace), aka The Firm.

No plural. It’s Buck House.

And if you ask a London cabbie to take you to BH, you’ll arrive at Broadcasting House, the HQ of the BBC.

Bucks House sounds like it should be in Columbus, Ohio. Or maybe Milwaukee.
