Big Snowstorm Headed for Northeast

Just want to say it’s quite beautiful outside. There’s one street lamp illuminating all that white. And do any of you experience this- with all the snow around the house, it’s warm downstairs. I have a space heater going, but the thermostat is at about 63. There is often this blanketing effect when a big storm is still fresh.

In central NJ, Just woke up to see significant amount of snow outside, thick on branches, probably 8-12 inches. Very still now, no blowing, nothing falling.

Looking out my window at 4am, I can’t see our cars in driveway or steps, very still and quiet, pretty in a way, but overwhelming…and my first thought after wishing my husband could have gotten home was, “How is my dog going to get out to pee?” Back to bed. : )

It is so quiet outside, and nothing is moving, very peaceful. Except, smaller gray clouds are rapidly moving below the large white sky. Crisp cold.

23 inches and still snowing. (I planted a yardstick on my patio at the beginning of the storm.)

I wonder how much snow my house in CT actually ended up getting. No answer on the phone…DH is probably out clearing the driveway.

Looked outside of our apartment and I see most of sidewalks are cleared already. Will need to get to Chinatown for some grocery shopping today. It is New Year tomorrow. Glad this storm didn’t happen tomorrow. Someone told me that to have fresh snow fall right around New Year means it is going to be a prosperous year.

Just got an email and pic from BIL in CT - cars are completely buried but they didn’t lose power! I’m glad he pointed out what the lumps were, otherwise it looked like a normal snow scene. Haven’t heard from the rest of the family yet - as east coast transplants we always keep an eye on you folks. Stay safe and warm all!

Thumper, we had over 24 inches, 33 in some places and I’m New Haven area. Drifts up to my waist.

It’s stopped here. There’s ~30 inches on my deck

I heard Derby has 39"!

Here in southern Westchester it looks like about 12". My sister’s street is plowed so assuming the main streets are also. Not windy here, either.

Wow, everyone. Stay safe.

CT MA border. Two feet + on the ground, heavy snow still falling, swirling and sideways snow flow. Expecting another few inches at least before this thing twirls away. Power still on - gratitude! Digging out will be a big job. Matt Noyes reporting this is the biggest storm on record w/ highest snow totals and lowest barometric pressure.

I just read on the hometown newspaper website that almost all of Cape Cod is without power. I could only get in touch with one of my sisters who is without…she can’t even see out of any of her windows to guess how much snow there is.

Friend near us says my house got about 18 inches. I just hope the airport is open tomorrow. I want to go home!

Where are you Thumper? I hope it’s warmer. : )

My cousin in Braintree, who I am planning to stay with after my flight gets in tonight (still not cancelled) has been without power since last night. Yikes!

15 miles north of Boston- we have two feet on the ground with 6 to 8 inches still coming! The drifts are covering the windows. There’s been a travel ban since 4 pm yesterday and there are no plans to lift it. Don’t know when we’ll get out! But, we have power!

Stay safe everyone in the affected area.

The snowdrift against my sliding glass door measures 23," and that doesn’t count the roughly 4" drop to the deck. No more snow, but some pretty significant wind gusts still. But hooray for electricity, heat, and water (and I am so thankful for all those crews who were aggressively pruning trees along our power lines all fall and winter).
