Clothing definitely is a big improvement. I wear far less bulky clothing when I’m doing snow-related stuff. Some of the storms this season were followed by warm weather so it went away quickly.

We live just enough inland that the winter two years ago was mild. We had snow (a headache but it melted quickly) on October 29…but then it never snowed here again all winter until March 1 (that also melted quickly). Coastal areas, however, got pounded that winter!

This winter has felt particularly horrible because it feels like it started with hurricane Sandy and hasn’t given a break yet. We just need some warmth and sun here.

ZM - that’s what I keep saying, it’s been cold & dreary with no break. We haven’t had any of those bonus 60+ degree days that you often get in February or March. Even the 10 day forecast is depressing.

I nearly hung up on my mother who called from DC last night and was going on how they haven’t had a measurable snow this year. What a difference 225 miles makes!

We have been very fortunate since Sandy, when we lost power for a week. All of the big snow has been just missing us. Nothing but rain and a little sleet here yesterday.

This winter has been horrible compared to the very mild winter we had last year, but I don’t think it was as bad as the winter 2 years ago when everyone was concerned about roof collapsesand we stayed below freezing for weeks on end.

The weather got worse here in central CT this afternoon. When I went out, the temp was 37 and it was raining with some sleet mixed in. By the time I got to my destination (20 minutes later), the temp was 35 and there was more sleet. When I left to return home 40 minutes later, the temp was 33, it was snowing and sleeting, and I needed to clean off my windshield. Driving was more dicey on the way home, when the temp dropped to 32 and it turned to all snow. I don’t think this will last all afternoon, but, lucky me, it hit when I was out.

I want to put in a plug for alpaca socks. I used to be a fan of Smartwool, but it is nothing compared to alpaca for comfort and warmth. They can’t be put in the dryer, but since one can also wear them several times between washing–one’s feet really don’t sweat in alpaca socks, at least not when worn with clogs, like I do-- that’s not a big deal.

I fully admit that I was spoiled by last year’s winter but this RIDICULOUS. It shouldn’t be storming snow outside on March 19th where I live. Nope nope nope.

It’s snowing again. Bleugh.

A snowblower.

Today was a perfect example - 6" of snow followed by rain for an hour before I could get to it turned my driveway into a Heart Attack Special.

A half-hour of following the snowblower around and it is done.

The rain has turned back into snow and freezing rain and it is starting to accumulate on the driveway. Sigh.

I just turned on the Weather Channel and they are watching another storm for this weekend into early next week. Oy vey.

Snowing hard again here.

I got Merino Wool socks last year. One really great pair and three decent pairs (differing blends). Easy to wash and I just hang-dry them. Time to go home and work on the roof. Or maybe I should wait until the snow is over - but that’s supposed to be midnight.

We HAVE a snowblower, and a large driveway with a hill. DH cleared it completely and now there is about 2 inches of powdery snow on it. I’m just going to shovel.

I have four pair of waterproof boots lined up by the door:

Slip-ons:

Serious snow boots:

No wet or cold feet this winter for me!

And OOPS, last winter was the mild one!

4 spin-outs on the way home. I was doing 45 on the highway passing a lot of cars (I’m usually the one being passed). A remarkable difference from this morning. The highway was in much worse shape. There were tracks of pavement but you had to hunt around for them and the folks driving at 20 MPH on the highway were more of a hindrance to most drivers.

Apparently we have some more snow coming on Thursday but it’s supposed to be mainly on the coast. Maybe some this weekend too?

So far we’ve only had 5-6". I know we’ll get more tonight, but I don’t think we’ll end up with 10-14". More than fine with me!

Cleared off the lower roof. I think that I’ll do the upper roof too (then I have to do the lower roof again).
