Biggest Improvement SAT Stories

1340-11th grade (I didn’t know you could skip!)
1870-12th grade (Ran out of time)
Hoping for a 1270 combined and 2000+ on October SAT!

Finally able to post on this thread.

(soph psat -> junior psat -> june sat -> oct sat)
CR: 42 -> 46 -> 690 -> 750
M: 62 -> 70 -> 740 (STUPID CURVE!) -> 730
W: 36(!) -> 46 -> 710 -> 710
140 -> 162 -> 2140 -> 2190 (790 pt improvement!)

On the actual SAT, I first received a 1950 ( Oct 2009) and received a 2240 (Oct 2010). I received a 175 on the PSAT OCT of 2008. Its still a good improvement, but it would have been awesome to break 2300! Oh well, I think It will still give me a good chance. Anyways, guys, not everyone can get 2200+ on their first try. Maybe those ppl are smarter, maybe not. All I know from my experience is that you literally CANNOT give up, if you think you have the ability to score decently. You have to work hard, and I did. Ha, but in retrospect, I should have studied longer and more.

Since the last SAt and the October SAT I went from
490 Math---->570 math
580 CR---->630 Cr
550 writing---->600 Writing

For the June 2010 SAT I went in without any prep, thinking I would score an easy 2000+ because I had always been a naturally good test taker. While my scores were decent, they weren’t much to be proud about on CC:

Math 690
CR 640
Writing 580 (8E)

Anyways, a few days after I got my scores I felt alright about myself and decided to go get a head start my college application process and joined CC. I then learned how the majority of CCers were easily in the top 3% for scores and decided that I should also be amongst those ranks. I got the Blue Book and read extensively on all the SAT advice on this forum and my scores improved drastically. Being on here completely changed my view on how to game tests and study. CC also sparked my desire to be in the top percent for everything I do.
I decided to really devote myself to prep by increasing my reading load, becoming a grammarian, and being as objective as possible.

On the Oct 2010 SAT I scored 2200 with a breakdown as followed:

Math 710
CR 690
Writing 800 (11E)

I’m a bit let down by my M+CR total (with an especially brutal curve this test), but I made some rookie mistakes and should be able to improve 100+ points for November. I was shocked by the Writing section though, because it had by far been the bane of my SAT experience and my essay would have been complete crap in my Honors English class.
I’m looking forward to taking the SATs one more time and entering the elusive 99% percentile.

I went from a 2180 in Jan 2010 (very little prep) to a 2290 in Oct 2010. Actually, I prepped a little during the summer, but it didn’t really help since I kept getting scores that made me feel really sad, so I gave up studying at some point. It saved my sanity. Ultimately, I still ended up doing badly on CR (690) but I perfect-scored the other two sections so I’m good.

Sadly, the high school I go to is so competitive, even a 2290 doesn’t seem high enough. Where are we coming to? :(

191 sophomore psat
2320 junior sat

I got a PSAT score of 145. My 1st SAT was a 1500. My 2nd SAT, the october 2010 one, I got a 2160. Seriously, literally anyone can get above a 2000 on this test.

I got a 1850 on my freshman March SAT and I’ve been getting ~2100s on recent practice tests (I’m now a sophomore). I think I’ll get a ~208 on the PSAT I just took.

My first SAT was January 2010. I was actually undergoing a real depression back then, so I was messed up when I took the test. The reason for my depression was that I was sure that I had missed the NMSF by a question (got a 214 and the cutoff is always 215+), then I failed 2 of my science tests miserably, and then I didn’t qualify for this competition that I had prepared for.

So yeah, my January 2010 score was a 2100:
740 M
680 CR
680 W

I retook the SAT in October 2010. I did not do any further extensive studying for the SAT since the January test. (The main studying that I did for the SAT was during the summer of 2009 when I took an SAT course and did 15 or so practice tests to get ready for the PSAT.) I was feeling a whole lot better in October though, and I got lots of sleep the week before I took the test.

October 2010 score was a 2320:
M 800
CR 770
W 750 (probably -1 with an 8 essay --my score report is still not out)

Story motto: just “feeling right” when you take the test can make all the difference in your scores.

1st SAT Last October 2009
640CR
600M
600W

Last SAT October 2010
740CR
710M
700W

2150 total with a 1450/1600!

I made some really dumb mistakes on math. Anyways, with some natural intelligence and some hard work, anyone can increase drastically.

Junior PSAT: 222
Junior SAT: 2000, 2030

Senior SAT: 2260 (only time I did a couple of practice tests). I’m inclined to attribute my earlier failings to circumstantial errors. This is more in line with my PSAT.

M+W: 1320 > 1340 > 1570.

Gadgar: Wow. Just. Wow. I was aiming for 2300+ this time around, but I don’t know what I did to screw up writing so royally as to get a 690.

Sophomore PSAT: 189
Junior SAT: 2320

Sophomore PSAT: 165
Junior PSAT: 205
Junior March SAT: 1990
Senior October SAT: 2100

Super score: 2170
520 point improvement from first PSAT to last SAT

I attribute the improvement mostly from using Direct Hits for Vocab and using Noitaraperp’s CR methods. For math, I just constantly practiced until I knew how to solve each problem. For writing, I used Sparknotes’ Seven Deadly errors, and just took a bunch of practice tests.

Exactly 1 yr:

Oct 2009 PSAT (little prep) - 183
May 2010 SAT - 2090
Oct 2010 SAT - 2300

I wish i got 30 more so I could say I improved 500 points, but just know that there is no limit on improvement as long as you have some intelligence, not a crazy amount, but just enough and you’re all set.

1800—> 2200 !!! This shows how much the Blue Book helps after going through the whole thing!!

1690.to 2130.
Math-680, CR-490 writing-520
To
Math-750 CR-630 writing 750.
Although I usually get 800in math, I made a few dumb mistakes.
I did like 40 practicetests

1910 to 2340. Realized that the test is actually really easy I was just overthinking it.

1970 to 2240. worked my a** off. no tutors, just blue book, princeton review book tests, princeton review flash cards, spark notes SAT prep book

My first practice test: 1710
My first actual SAT taken in 11/2009: 2100
My latest SAT taken this month: 2300
