Binge watched tv shows (Part 1)

I liked the ending of The Crown. DH said he wants Sleep, Dearie, Sleep played at his funeral.

Anyone watching the Gilded Age on Max? The recaps on Vulture are fantastic.

Second season of Julia, also on Max, almost lost me at first but the last few episodes have been better.

Yup. Season 2 finale aired last night, so perfect time to binge. It’s a great show.

Season 1 was stronger, but I enjoyed it as well

Yes, we’re enjoying it greatly. I was surprised that H wanted to watch with me, and he’s liked it every bit as much as I have.

DH and I finished the last episode (all 9 seasons) of Suits at lunch. It was a satisfying binge.

Would we watch a new Suits spin-off? Well, we’d definitely check it out. But what we really enjoyed about the show is the chemistry of the original cast. Can that be duplicated? We’ll have to wait and see.

We are getting ready to start the 4th episode of Season 9 of Suits. I really haven’t enjoyed Season 8 and 9 as much as the prior 7 seasons, except for a couple storylines. I think they have different screenwriters as I think the dialogue doesn’t stay true to Harvey. Although I liked Dule Hill in The West Wing, I’m bored with him and his storyline. I do like Samantha.

I doubt I’ll watch a new version. It just couldn’t be the same without Louis and Donna.

We really enjoyed the first few seasons of Suits but then lost interest.

@conmama I agree with your assessment of the seasons.

It will be interesting to see which, if any, original cast members are a part of the new project. And I agree with your opinion that it wouldn’t be the same without Louis and Donna. The writers have quite the challenge.

I am in the middle of Season 3, really enjoying it.

I didn’t watch the last season or two but Mr Groundhog did.

I liked the first 4-5 seasons of suits, but after that it got repetitive IMO. Still, did watch it all the way to the end

Hadn’t heard a revival was in the works. I really want a follow-on to West Wing. Loved that show.

I agree the last three seasons of Suits declined in quality - just not the same chemistry, clever writing, and joie de vivre as the prior seasons.

That seems true in many series - at the end they mess with the characters a bit, stretch their personalities, exaggerate the plots, etc.

I still hung in there and will say (not a spoiler) the last scene of the last episode of the last season was super touching! And the sound track was always killer!

2 British series

  • Vigil 2, will be on Peacock: action/geopolitical thriller; weapons of war are a big industry in the UK too and here BBC presents “drone warfare and Saudi Arabia/Qatar” (“Wudyan”) – with creepy drone formations, rogue drones, and the legality of bombing Middle Eastern civilians. Plus continuation of Amy&Kirsten’s sweet story.

  • Mrs.Sidhu investigates (Acorn?) Cozy mystery. Mrs.Sidhu is a 50-60 yo woman whose Sikh father was a respected police officer. She would have gladly followed in his footsteps if he hadn’t been killed. Now she is a widow with a grown, unemployed son, a catering business, and a knack to get the info she needs, which means she’s always underfoot when alcoholic, on-the-verge of getting fired Inspector Burton, needs to investigate.

Would love more West Wing but only if they could match the writing and ensemble of actors. Not sure that can happen.

Just watched Suits finale last night and really enjoyed it. Did you catch the way Mike said something when he came back. I believe it was 2018, so season 7 or 8. Someone asked him how Rachel was and he he said something like “fine, you wouldn’t believe how well she’s doing”. That was when she was getting married to Prince Harry.

Conmama - haha I didn’t catch that!

and @arisamp - if you enjoyed the West Wing, there was a wonderful podcast called The West Wing Weekly which was a discussion about each episode over the years, along with many many guests, including actors, producers, Aaron Sorkin, Tommy Schlamme, behind the scenes folks and more.

Thanks!!

Loved the Call the Midwife Christmas special, which aired on PBS in the states.

Also loved the Ghosts UK Christmas special. It was the perfect ending and resolution to the series.
