Binge watched tv shows (Part 1)

We are almost fine done with Murder at the End of the World and are enjoying it. We are trying Shining Girls but it is a little weird.

Binged all the light we cannot see and enjoyed it, followed by a world war 2 documentary. Enjoyed both.

Yes, because my younger daughter had no filter. She heard ‘stupid’ and she said stupid, dumb, and other words. Not cute in front of the nuns at school.

We couldn’t watch Cartoon Network when they were young because then every other word was stupid, shut up, dummy, poopy

We really don’t swear at our house, and the grown kids (who I am sure use saltier language elsewhere) respect that. Growing up they did hear an occasional swear word on TV, but back in the nineties it was quite easy to avoid movies and shows with the endless swear words that we hear today.

Now we did watch the first two episodes of Ted Lasso with the grown kids last week. There was an abundance of bad language, wanker etc
and that was just fine. We laughed a lot,

Deleted. Wrong thread

Same. Over the holiday one son gave another grief when he used “the s word” at the dinner table. Yet, I know they talk like that with friends and we all watch tv shows where the words are non-stop. Succession, The Bear, etc.

re: Slow Horses – i liked it too. . . . and after the first series i read the book series.

I think the author is a truly interesting writer. A good writer. Sometimes a complicated writer. But definitely NOT like so many standard spy novels out there, and he kept my interest through every book.

The books and the series have a few small differences; but both are so good!

Almost through with the final season of The Crown. Did some reading on Wikipedia about the al Fayeds. Was surprised to read that Dodi and Jamal Khashoggi, the journalist killed by the Saudis, were cousins! Dodi’s mother’s maiden name was Khashoggi.

Small world.

Slow Horses has been renewed for season 5

Bad Surgeon–Love under the Knife on Netflix is a documentary about a conman in the medical world. Interesting and disheartening that so many covered for him to protect themselves.

Reminds me of the Dr Death podcast about a poorly trained (but highly confident) surgeon.

I believe I mentioned all the Christmas Specials, at least the ones I watch, upthread.

It means we liked the same specials :yum: Hear hear Britbox subscribers and Masterpiece fans! Plus, I can be excused because you dissed Who’s the boss :sunglasses:
(I can dm anyone a recent review by the French highbrow magazine, following a recent revival.)

I didn’t watch the first season. Is this worth watching, based on what you’ve seen I have liked?

I would recommend starting with s1, because it establishes how/why DCI Silva and DS Longacre have good shorthand and the whole divided investigation format. First season is about nuclear deterrence and Trident (very contentious Scottish v. English issue). Military critics thought the sub was too roomy but it looked claustrophobic enough to me!
S2 is about drone warfare and how the UK allies itself with Gulf dictatorships to sell its latest weapons. The issue must have been sensitive enough that Saudi Arabia and/or Qatar were given a fake name (though easily recognizable - hint, picture of Margaret Thatcher with Saudis in the early credits). The first scene (act? =~8 first mn) is creepy and establishes clearly what we’re talking about. Ep5&6 have problems imho but overall a fun thriller that doesn’t make you feel dumber for having watched it.
Excellent, haunting credit music BTW.
Apparently 2nd most-watched BBC program after Eastenders.

Oh, I meant starting with season one. Thanks for the suggestion. I see a few others in the thread have also watched and enjoyed, so I’ll add to the list. At this point, it’s likely to be a summer project, since US shows will be returning over the next few weeks, and I’m in the midst of binging The Blacklist. I just finished season 3, so I have always to go.
