Binge watched tv shows (Part 1)

H and I just finished watching all three seasons of Occupied on Netflix. We had traveled to Norway this summer, and it’s a Norwegian series, a political thriller. Lots of twists and turns!

I’m watching a cute reality show called, “First Dates UK.” People are paired off with a dinner partner and they decide if they want to see other again. I did have to put captioning on since I had a hard time understanding their accents! I’m watching it on Roku for free. A good thing to binge while I lie on the couch with COVID.

Accents are a big deal in England, I guess. More often than not, at the beginning of the date one person comments on the other’s accent.

When H and I watched Peaky Blinders we put on the captioning and found it helpful at times.

That looks interesting. Is it anything like Borgen (Also a Scandanavian political drama)?

Loved it. The plot twists have surprised me multiple times., plus it’s kind of playful and sweet in a subtle way.

Anything British = captions on in our house!

I remember seeing Master and Commander in a theater and thinking "can’t wait to watch this at home on DVD with captions on!!

Also, watched last season of Derry Girls on a plane–between lack of captions and the ambient noise on a jet, caught the gist of what was happening, but boy, found out I had missed so many funny moments when we re-watched it at home later!

Yes, I would say Occupied is similar in some ways to Borgen.

H and I are big fans of the Reacher books by Lee Child (there are 28 books in the series and we’ve read them all). As such, we were really interested in watching the TV series on Amazon Prime, which is based on the Reacher books. We had seen Tom Cruise’s film adaptation of Reacher, which was terrible mostly because Cruise played Reacher and if you’ve read the books, you’d know that Reacher’s physicality (he’s very tall, big, and tough–former military police) is an important part of the plot. Tom Cruise just couldn’t make any who read the books believe he was Jack Reacher.
Anyway–we finished the first season of the TV series and mostly liked it. The actor who plays Reacher definitely looks the part. Starting the second season tonight. I’d recommend it. There’s violence, but it isn’t gorey and in some ways it’s almost campy.

H and I enjoy Reacher as well. Waiting for the last few episodes of Season 2. Apparently it has already been renewed for Season 3.

I just watched the 6 episodes of Reacher season 2 on my flight to AZ. I hope they release more before I fly home.

Almost done with Suits. Reacher is next.

I like Reacher a lot, but I wish he would be more like Jason Statham in his films. For such a “big guy,” he seems to “struggle” fighting with much smaller people. He also kinda walks weirdly for a “big guy.” Short strides, or maybe tight jeans, I think. :grinning:

I also began a new Netflix series, which popped up on my main Netflix screen called The Brothers Sun, just released, starring Michele Yeoh and an otherwise no-name cast. I’ve watched 4 of the 8 episodes.

It’s about a Chinese triad family that has a blend of action, a tad gory, and some comedy and romance. I’m enjoying it so far.

The new season of Fargo is great. Juno temple and Jon hamm are both impressive. It’s dark and twisty, with the right amount of quirky

After repeated suggestions from both family and strangers we finally started Foyle’s War. First episode was very good—looking forward to the rest of the series.

I really enjoyed it. Have been trying to get my husband to watch it for ages.

It is one of my favorite shows. The actor who played Foyle was so cool, calm and collected. I love every episode of it.

Too bad that at one point, the production was cancelled before it was revived resulting in the director skipped a couple years toward the end of war.

The name of the show was kind of boring but after I started watching, I was hooked. So well done.

For those who have/are binging Suits I read that Harvey, Mike, Donna and Jessica will be making an appearance on the Golden Globes telecast tonight.
