Spent the last week with Dex and Em in their 20 years of One Day (Netflix). I enjoyed it a lot . I haven’t read the book or seen the movie so I didn’t know what was going to happen.
Netflix suggested I might like the Australian show Fisk so I tried the first couple of episodes. Seems like humor I’ll enjoy so I‘ll continue.
And I’m 2 episodes into Slow Horses (Apple TV+) as my treadmill show. It’s keeping me engrossed (so I’m not looking to see how much longer I have to exercise every 45 seconds )
because she had raised those children like her own. most likely she had been a helper for years and didn’t even raise her own kids due to financial need and visited 1x a year - if employer allowed. very common and sad in the helper community. a lot of financial need, as shown with the helpers sending their $ home in that episode too.
It’s on Amazon Prime, right? I’m on the last episode. I lost the connection on my flight last night. Been having a heck of a time with downloading on my ipad lately.
We just watched the first 2 episodes of Shogun last night and really liked it. I never saw the one with Richard Chamberlain and tried reading the book about 16 years ago and gave up. I recall being so confused with so many different characters.
I wish they would stop doing weekly drops, after they git us accustomed to binge watching!
I tried watchin that one but couldn’t even get through the first one. I usually have three at a time that I cycle through and if I don’t like the first episode I go to another one.
One I really liked was Dr. Cha. Also Extraordinary Attorney Woo.
The other day I mentioned I’ve been bingeing Gilmore Girls while on exercise bike–not really something H would be interested in, I think.
Have been looking for a common show for both of us, which is always a challenge–we have some overlapping tastes but not always easy to pin down. But tonight we started Suits (which we’d never seen) and it looks like a winner for us both to share. So, Gilmore Girls in the morning, Suits in the evening. I’m set for a while with all those seasons to get through !
I wish this type of shows made a return - part comedy part drama, suspenseful, not depressing.
There was another one with a therapist to athletes, too.
We finished season 6 of Drive to Survive last night. It was decent, and I think it handled the Verstappen dominance of 2023 well. All in all it was very entertaining.
Race #1 of the Formuala One season is this weekend. Lets go!
Not quite the same, but we loved “Call My Agent” when we watched it a couple years ago. It was recommended by several people here. French ad agency. Had the elements of funny and good story lines at the same time. You have to be okay with subtitles (or speak French, of course!)
All these mentions of Richard Chamberlain made me long for “Rich Man, Poor Man”…loved, loved, loved that series and crushed out on Chamberlain and Nolte - I can’t find it streaming anywhere…would pay to see it but all I can find are old DVDs. RM/PM and Roots were the only mini-series I seem to like back then. North and South was okay but didn’t get my emotions going like RM/PM. Definitely some good shows back in the 70s/80s.
With new episodes of Vera dropping on Britbox this week, it begs the question: Brenda Blethwyn (sp?) indicates she doesn’t have the energy (in her mid-70s) to do another season, yet the show has been renewed for at least 1 if not 2 more seasons----
Does the role of Vera get recast? I mean, how many different Miss Marples, Hercule Poirots and Sherlock Holmes have there been? Another series based on Ann Cleeves novels, Shetland, recast its lead (though the title of the show isn’t “Perez”)
Maybe, David Leon returns as Joe Ashworth to eventually take a lead role when Brenda retires? Granted Joe was a jerk in the first episode but this could lead to him taking over.
The new Shetland was good. I missed Perez but Tosh and the other lady were good. The plot made it worth watching.
Yes! In addition to “Suits” and “White Collar”, we too enjoyed “Necessary Roughness”. Looks like it may be on Apple TV.
“Covert Affairs” had more international intrigue / guns etc, but still enjoyable. Also maybe on Apple TV (my Watchlist app not always accurate on that).
