We started episode 1 of Palm Royal this week. Yes, Carol Burnett was a big draw for us … though LOL her scenes so far pretty mellow (she is sleeping)
The “vacationing in Japan” thread has DH and I planning not only a trip, but we started watching Shogun. We had meant to start it when it dropped but are just getting around to it. It’s very good!
Two episodes of Elsbeth tonight.
Looking for a shorter, comedy program to end your evening? We are liking Dick Turbin - a sort of Monty Python-ish Robin Hood, with plenty of modern day comments/topics woven in.
I’m visiting my daughter and her family in Indianapolis–she and I watched two episodes after putting my granddaughter (3) to bed. I don’t know if I was just exhausted from running around with a toddler, but I wasn’t that interested in the series. I don’t know if I’ll watch more. I did enjoy seeing Carol Burnett (mostly sleeping as you point out) as well as Allison Janney, Laura Dern, and Krisin Wiig.
I think this is the kind of series where one sample episode is probably enough to judge. It’s silly stuff, and not everybody will like it. In some moments it feels like a “Pirates of Caribbean” crew vibe, on land.
Anyone else watch Apple TV “Tehran”? We enjoyed the first Season, but eventually gave up, as it became repetitive. Glen Close also seemed an odd choice, but perhaps we stopped watching too early?
We finished all 5 seasons of Fargo. I think season 5 was my favorite. Season 4, not so much.
H and I loved the Gentleman. We are also liking Shogun. H loves it. I like it alright.
We are liking shogun. Also liked Tokyo vice is you like organized crime stuff
Hooked on another British detective show “Dalgliesh”.
Great show
H and I started Palm Royale last night. It’s a light show, but I am loving the clothes, cars and scenery!
We watched 2nd episode last night. Your comment makes me realize that I missed the period clothes etc from The Marvelous Ms Maisel, one of our top favorites - we laughed so much, it helped us get through Covid isolation.
We trying to watch things in Spanish, but we need to watch it with English subtitles. Have started Reina Roja (Red Queen). It’s a police procedural where a supersmart, but depressed special unit cop can basically visualize crime scenes from very few clues. I like the premise, but there’s a little too much torture. Estoy Vivo was much more fun.
Speaking of watching things in Spanish, my husband (from Spain) got started watching this Spanish soap opera called La Promesa. It’s extremely popular in Spain at the moment. I started kind of watching it with him but they spoke too fast for me to really understand what was going on. So I put on closed captions (they’re only available in Spanish) and started watching it that way. They still talk fast and the captions aren’t always on screen long enough for my brain to read and translate on the fly, but I get at least 75% of what’s being said. Now I’m hooked on the darn show! It has really improved my Spanish comprehension.
@Colorado_mom - I also loved the clothes in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel!
You can see some of them again here…
I’ve been trying to watch Suits for lack of anything else that interests me right now, but near the end of season 4 I am ready to give up. I think you have to really like Louis Litt to enjoy the show, and I really don’t. Actually, no one is that likeable, the storylines are absurd, and it seems to go in circles. The fashions are fun! I read the synopses of the rest of the seasons and it sounds like the same so I think I will give up.
I think my Spanish might be good enough to kind of manage, but my husband is about six months behind me. Who knows maybe after three weeks in Spain (we leave next week! ) we’ll magically understand more. I understood enough Estoy Vivo that I sometimes forgot to read the subtitles.
Great pix of Mrs. Maisel outfits! Thanks for sharing - love them!
