I’m sure you’re right.
Did anyone else read the note at the very end of the episode? Something like “eighteen years ago when we were writing the Big Bang Theory we knew that Sheldon needed a life-changing event in his life (the death of his father). It was a very sad day on the set filming this episode. If the death of a fictional character on a TV show has affected you, you should reach out to the people in your real life and let them know how much you love them”.
I wonder if we need a separate thread for Young Sheldon. I know some of the stuff mentioned isn’t technically spoilers based on current promos and knowledge of its predecessor show, but there may be people who are still planning to catch up with it. I just think the detailed discussion here isn’t in keeping with the spirit of this thread.
Anyone who watched BBT knew this happened when Sheldon was 14. As YS went on and the kids grew so, I realized it would be included. I just love all these people, both shows. Have totally enjoyed them.
Given that the series concludes Thursday, it’s likely unnecessary
H and I finished Ripley on Netflix. We liked it for the most part - something different. The filming in black & white was beautifully done and added to the feel of the series.
We are pleased that Season 3 of Acapulco is available.
We are surprised we’ve not heard more people talk about it. It’s silly and charming, fun setting. We laugh a lot. Good show for end of the evening. If you like Palm Royale, you will probably like it.
I’m am a BBT fan and enjoy YS very much. Look forward to seeing Jim & Mayim reprise their roles on the finale. (FWIW I’m seeing Jim Parsons on Broadway next week!).
I will say that I don’t find the characters of George and Mandy to be especially appealing so I’m not all that excited about that spin-off.
I’m guessing @ChoatieMom meant to post here re Shogun?
I have now watched both series (rewatched the Richard Chamberlain version) and like both for different reasons. I don’t exactly know the book by heart, but well enough to know what each series was missing. Between the two, they hit my favorite parts, some in one and the rest in the other. In both cases, I would be very confused about the politics without having read the book. I was surprised to feel that they spent too much time on the romance in the older version! I don’t think I felt that way when I was younger .
Happy to report that my memories of Richard Chamberlain are intact! Now I’m trying to decide if I want to (1) reread the book yet again and (2) track down the DVD of Thornbirds.
After the flood available on Britbox !
A thriller but also a show where the main police officer is not a detective yet but is upset she’s only seen through her pregnancy and as a vessel for a baby, not as a professional; so she goes out of her way to be the detective she wants to become, pretending she can act as if she weren’t pregnant, aka, recklessly.
Also a show about public/governmental v.individual responsibility when it comes to climate change and its impact.
Note: yes, it’s clearly not a real baby in that white water course they used to show the river rising fast. Enough watchers complained… hope it doesn’t make you dismiss the show. I personally am glad they used their budget to recreate a flooded town inside a reservoir (then slowly emptied it so we could see the aftermath of mud, ruined furniture, displacements…) rather than on a real looking android baby.
I just started season 1 of The Jinx (Max). What a creepy guy!
Actually, I meant to post on the Best Books thread where the conversation veered to Shogun, but thanks for catching my mistake. I re-posted there.
I don’t disagree that it’s concluding Thursday and that no actual spoilers have been posted (at least for people who are caught/familiar with TBBT). My point was that this thread is more about recommendations than extended discussions. Just because the current show is ending, doesn’t mean there wouldn’t be people who want to discuss what is becoming the Sheldon universe. (There’s a spinoff coming up.)
So happy that Sarah Lancashire won BAFTA for her lead role in Happy Valley. So well deserved. If any of you have not watched it, Happy Valley is a must-see police detective show, all three series of it.
Let me add that Happy Valley was robbed not getting the Best Drama award.
(Some years, all nominated shows are equally outstanding - but this year Happy Valley was the clear stand out).
I have not watched Top Boy so I don’t know how good it is. However, Happy Valley series 3 was as good as the first two series which won the Best Drama series.
I’ve never read the books or seen the original TV version with Richard Chamberlin and I didn’t have any problem following the plot and the politics. I think they did an excellent job parsing out enough information for viewers to follow without having to add in lots of exposition. I read that Hiroyuku Sanada (Toranaga) has signed on for a Season 2, so really curious about what that would look like. One character who I really ended up liking a lot is Fuji - she wasn’t all that interesting in the beginning, but I loved her character arc. But sad some of my favorite characters can’t be in S2.
Season 2 will be all original content since the book and first season end at the same point.
We watched Icarus last evening. It’s a documentary that deals with Olympic/elite level athletes and doping. It’s a fascinating film.
A reminder that part one of Bridgerton Season 3 (4 episodes) drops tomorrow. Part 2 drops June 13.
